It might be worth going through the Boots of the North/East/South/West Winds again for people who don't have the Eldritch ones over the next few years.

Maybe skip or do the Boots of the North Wind last given the existence of Boots of Shocking Step and Death Knight Boots.

Getting new boot legendary paths for them that puts them near, but not as good as, the Eldritch would be cool, one path each year so the boots can address all playstyles. You could probably combine the melee tokens into one and the spell/missile damage into a second boot and just do two years/two paths. Could be something like:

Boots of the North-east Winds: +3 Sonic with 1-handed, +5 Sonic with 2-handed melee
Boots of the South-west Winds: +3 Cold damage with ranged


Boots of the North-east Squall: +4 Sonic with 1-handed, +6 Sonic with 2-handed melee
Boots of the South-west Squall: +4 Cold damage with ranged


Boots of the North-east Storm: +5 Sonic with 1-handed, +7 Sonic with 2-handed melee
Boots of the South-west Storm: +5 Cold damage with ranged


They're unarguably worse than the Eldritch Four Winds (split damage types, elemental vs eldritch damage, no level/damage bonus from Eldritch set) but they're better than any other option I can think of that's currently available.

With death knight boots in print and the arcane shirt 2/4 I wonder if we might do well to kick boots a couple years down the road and make the next arcanum item a set of boots to properly compete with the eldritched boots. Maybe even make it do the same thing as the eldritched boots to give people a chance to "catch up" and force a choice between which major set you wanted to equip completely.

Maybe once the Arcanum Shirt is done, redo the Boots of the Four Winds as an Arcanum transmute, and then also have a Legendary (or something similar) Transmute including both the Arcanum and Eldritch Boots to get a pair that applies to both Eldritch & Arcanum sets?

Personally, I’m expecting ear or wrist for the next arcanum item. Both would cause potential significant shakeup in builds as wrist and ear are slot expander slots. I expect that people would wear the arcanum items, but have to make some hard choices about what charms or Iouns to drop to fit it in.

The “safe” location for the next arcanum item is back - do 3 cloaks with +5 to one save and +2 to the others. Do a fourth cloak with regen or +con, and then have the arcanum item transmute to +5 all saves and regen 3 (or whatever)

My guess is that the Arcanum will fill spots not taken by Eldritch set, but as soon as it takes a slot used for expanders there will be a big argument of how it should be a slot expander or be the more powerful item of the set. I am personally not looking forward to those arguments. Maybe make that the 7 year 1k order premium to justify the power increase. I really like the idea of a cycle of cloaks that combine together.

However with that said, I like the idea of printing new boots that compete at UR level and potential could lead to Relic or legendary for additional variants in builds.

Thieves Boots : +3 to hit +1 to saves

The idea is to avoid str (and added damage) or dex (and added ac and saves, kinda?) or int (int is used in to hit calculations for something isn’t it? There’s a token for scrolls at least right?). The Thief is trying to “hit” the keyhole and “save” from trap damage, they’re not an assassin to do damage, or a rogue who is just more stylish and well rounded, pick that pocket or unlock that safe and get out.

Named Thieves Boots : +3 to hit +3 to saves.

So I wanted something better without straying from the original idea, this is also essentially what boots were proposed as UR last year with a hit bonus of 3 before the boots were moved back to the cloak slot (pun)?

Solo Boots : +4 to hit, +3 to saves, may strike before initiative is rolled.

Slightly more roguish here, I would assume other “may strike first anyway” would not stack in TokenDB it might need to be clarified. I think there is something else that says “if monster rolls to go first may slide” and this could stack it could be clarified that only one attack can be made before a faster opponent. I thought about + to initiative, this function seems more inline as really they should swing first, or cast first, or shoot first as they are the solo’ers boots.

They may be not powerful enough or too powerful I don’t know, we have no legends boots yet. They seem strictly different from the eldritch and most people may not like that there is no damage bonus here, though there is clearly more damage at the legendary level.

Can we put Potion Leaping Attack on the never reprint list? It would, eventually, make having to balance builds between melee and ranged a real consideration.

Instead, perhaps, reprint Boots of Bounding?

100% disagree, I love potion of leap attack exactly because it lets me not have to worry. Its one of the few consumables worth using. Heck can we have a permanent version that doesn't take up a crippling slot (looking at you fizzy lifting).
