TOPIC: "What are you listening to?"

Re: "What are you listening to?" 17 years 6 months ago #13
I stream music over the internet from digitally imported: www.di.fm/
I've got my dad listening to their channels as well while he's at work.

Fritz, Joyus is right, Digitally Imported Radio ( www.di.fm ) is a really good source, they are mostly trance, techno, dance, and industrial, however. They have a sister network www.sky.fm which has quite a bit of variety, jazz, classical, etc. Lower bandwith feeds are free, and higher bandwith feeds are donation/pay. You could start there if your internet connection is halfway decent.

Some of the music podcasts are great ways to hear new bands and music, if you can stand some of the commentary. They usually play fairly unknown or independent musicians.

Dave

Fritz you also have an alternative by trying a Canadian radio station called CKUA it broadcasts over the internet and is very good for a whole range of music. Its all I listen to and wow some artists are excellent. I used to listen to it all the time when I worked but dont as much now that I stay at home with the kids. (Kids cartoons in the background turned off since kids in school. Silence is golden).

If your interested the site is www.ckua.com . Unfortunately I dont know how to link stuff through here but try it if you wish.

Happy listening.

Looks like it automatically made the link, Myke.

And I second Myke's recommendation - I particularly like CKUA's Celtic Show, on Friday night from 6pm-9pm if I recall correctly. They've got a lot of listeners, worldwide.

My mp3 player is filled with quite a few different bands. Right now, I've been listening to a lot of Buck Tick (J-rock band), Disturbed, System of a Down, Rammstein, Luca Turilli, Rhapsody, Sonata Artica, Lacuna Coil, and Tenacious D. I think that's about all that's really captured my interest lately.
Disturbed, SoD and Rammstein - COOL!

Hehe, yeah. Luca Turilli and Rhapsody have fantasy themes to their songs, you should check them out.

Do a search on the Net, Gary.
There was an article in Wired magazine about this, if I can find it I will let you know.
The magazine would have been the last two issues, I would guess.

There is a shareware app, that in its trail mode will allow you to re-build the file. You can decide to buy it or not at that point. That article reference may be online somewhere. It was a front cover teaser worded like "Cracking your Ipod" or something like that.

Dave

Woot! I'm glad to see another person who likes that one :-)

I had no idea what it was based on, I just liked the tune - at least the version of it I'm familiar with (lots of lyrics, less of the techno-synth dance beat).

I have the version from their cd Vegas.

The first part of the song are the opening lines from the Dark Crystal:

Another world, another time,
In the age of wonder
Another world, another time,
This world was green and good,
Until the crystal cracked.
Once more they will replenish themselves(referring to the Skeskies)
Cheat death again,
The power of their source,
The Crystal.
