You may want to check the GenCon site and see if there are pics yet from the costume contest, to see if anyone had anything like that. I'm sure you could also find a link to email them and confirm if the plastic or metal spikes would be ok.

I saw something like that at GenCon...

Fast Jack even has that of a sort...

As long as it isn't boiled into hard leather or curled into cones to make the

spikes. Those two methods could yield a spike slightly more rigid than

some could be comfortable around.

I have emailed the craftsman asking about the rigidity of the leather scales. If they are somewhat pliable, I am not too concerned.

I hate to admit it, but tokens are not my only adiction. I collect authentic Lord of the Rings armor, swords, helms, etc. (limited edition stuff) and it is spreading into other types of armor.

I recently saw armor that I absolutely covet. It is a good thing Mrs. Widseth is the governing valve on my check book. I need to start hiding money for this.

Have a look:

I have bought a few pieces from them, and they are willing to work with me to make a set for me. Where can I hide the money from Mrs Widseth--probably take me five years or more of stuffing quarters into the cookie jar buried in the back yard.

Oh well.

I have checked out their auctions as well. They have some fantastic pieces. They have a helmet that has a really cool faceplate that I'd love to have.

My only worry about a costume at TD is the heat! I can imagine leather armor getting rather hot while working in the dungeon and tavern. I'd probably have to drink alot of fluids. But then going to the bathroom would be an adventure in itself!

No question about the heat. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting you at Indy, but even with only my tunic and red surcoat with just metal spaulders, it was hot. I brought a chain mail coif but did not wear it because it was heavy and hot. At SoCal last year, I wore some leather armor and it had to come off about midday. Of course I have been on the convention floor selling my books, and the costuming draws people to my booth. Without the costumes, I would have to go out and tackle people to get them to stop because I am not JK Rowling or Stephen King or Margaret Weiss (yet). I don't have roll outs of new games that gamers are looking for etc. So there is no reason to even look at my booth. So it is Halloween for my wife and I at the booth.

Good luck with the purchases. I have found that unless you make the costumes yourself, you pretty much get what you pay for. I have always been satisfied with armstreet.

I love the helmet with the facemask also. But I am not so sure I can convince Mrs Widseth to let me get it. I have Elendil's helm, Gimli's helm, the High Elven War Helm, and Sauron's helm (all limited edition--luv em). So another helm may make my room classify as a museum or maybe mauseleum if she catches me buying any more
