Graven's Token Case Idea 9 years 6 months ago #1

I Just finished making a new token case so I thought I'd share. I have three now; Dwarven Silver a for my character build, Druid Blue & Green for potions/scrolls and random gear, and my new Drow Black & Silver.

Back Story:
So just before GenCon 2014 I was on the hunt for a perfect token holder. One that would meet my needs. It needed to be compact, secure, light weight, have easy access, not require a backpack or for me to carry it in my hands, and bonus if it could fit in my cargo pants. Oh yeah, and be relatively cheap.

I scoured the internet looking at coin holders, poker chip holders, golf ball holders, acrylic tubes, Plano and other screw or lure organizers, even D-battery storage containers. I ran across many of the products sold by the TD venders, or posted in the forum as options. Nothing really looked like it would work for me. Then someone posted that they bring a token along with them while shopping, in case they run into something that might work as a token holder. Great idea, thanks! So I headed out to my local hardware and dollar stores, and eventually found a something that works for me! Tupperware!

I found a skinny reusable plastic tub meant for snacks or crayons. I bought a couple and started modifying them. I brought some to GenCon to test, and they worked really well for me. I could put two in the lower pocket of my cargo shorts and walk around all day at the con without them bothering me.

Other Notes:
  • I don't have the container's labels anymore so I don't know what brand the containers are, but it wasn't a brand I had heard of before. So they're not real Tupperware.
  • Paint job on the inside so it does not get scraped off. First two are acyclic, and then one in black enamel. The acrylic was hard to work with on the unprimed plastic.
  • Originally used old token bags as a liner. They worked so-so. I upgraded to felt which works perfectly. Tokens are snug enough that in a full container they don't rattle and they keep their position.
  • Holds 22 tokens in a row, plus two extra (If I want) on top of the stack.
  • Works better than a plastic tube for me because you have access to all of the tokens, not just the one on top.
  • Works better than a pouch because the tokens stay in the order you put them in.
  • You could label them, I chose to give them different paint jobs instead.
  • They are stackable for storage.
  • Painting them was very time consuming.

Anyway I hope these inspire others with ideas for their own token cases. Let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions on how I could improve on them.

Very cool and clever, i'll have to look into something like that for myself, my in game braces work well, i'd like something like this so as not have to carry binders/tackleboxes through hall with extra build/trade stuff.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven
