Per Jeff, for the 2018-2019 Season, the Variable Effects for the following tokens will be:
  • Eldritch Runestone : Cold damage inflicted upon you is reduced by 5 per attack
  • Amulet of Wonder : +3 to Damage with melee, missile, and spell (not scroll or item) attacks
  • UR Special : Gain the "Troll" sub-type:
    • +6 to Constitution
    • -2 to Dexterity
    • Regenerate 2 HP when entering a new room. Once per game, this regen effect can raise the character from the dead with 2 HP remaining, but this resurrection effect only works when entering rooms 2-6.
These apply only to two-hour adventures, not True Grind.

The AoW effect is pretty good!
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

I really like the Eldritch Runestone and AoW effects. I think the Special one is a bit weak as is UNLESS it were to apply for an entire Convention. Then it would be worth burning a UR Special. Maybe TD could hand out inexpensive Troll pins unique to each Con whenever someone turned in a Special. The player could then wear the pin for the entire Con signifying to Coaches that she/he gets the bonus.

Those are pretty neat, but the Special still seems a bit weak since you're giving up a consumable UR. Maybe change -2 Dex to +2 St? Or leave -2 Dex there but add +2 St?

Traditionally, ?Specials only apply for one adventure.

Looking at previous years, (through the link Druegar thoughtfully provided) it doesn’t strike me as that much weaker than previous years, as far as in-game effects go. Of course, they’re OOP, so I’d expect the power would have to edge up to tempt people to use them, at least until they’re reprinted.

But I’ve never been tempted to use one, and probably never would, unless it had a chance at a MCoF. And that seems unlikely.

Special's effect has been given a little bump. See the first post in this thread for details. The TDb entry for Special (UR) has been updated to reflect this change.

A few points:
  • The 2 HP regen effect works in all* rooms, including when entering room 7.
  • The listing says the once-per-game rez effect only works when entering rooms 2-6 because unless your name is lazlo_hollyfeld1985, your character will not enter room 1 in a deceased state.
  • The rez effect will not work when entering room 7.
  • You have the option to decline the rez effect and save it for later.
*Well, I guess not when entering room 1... (not) sorry Laz.

With the TD Year now starting at Origins, do the 2018-2019 variable token effects still start at Gencon? I was not sure if the new effects would start at Origins for the “N1 - Astral Journey to the Bliss” adventure. Allowing both at Origins seems like it would create confusion, but it can work either way. Obviously, there is plenty of time to work out details like this over time. Just a question to add to the list, when time permits. Thanks!

That is a really good question. I would presume that since they have updated the 'upcoming events' page to specifically say that the 2018-2019 season will start at Origins, that this will be the case for all tokens, etc.

The forums will be a bit confusing for the next few months as people are reading the threads from PRIOR to the change in season launch.

But - the update was super specific.
