TOPIC: 2008 Token Suggestions

Let's try to list some cool (but not too powerful) tokens that we'd like to see in future years (2008 for starters).<br /><br />I'm jumping the gun a little.  I've just been so excited since Gen Con 2006.<br /><br />I'm sure Jeff and the Directors have their own ideas, but it shouldn't hurt to add our own suggestions, right?<br /><br /><br /><br />I'd rather get started on ideas now rather than a few weeks before printing.<br /><br /><br />

<br />Okay, having said that, here is something I was thinking of for the big boss (if there is one) in 2008.  This item should probably be very difficult to get your hands on, and perhaps could even have a negative added to it in exchange for the benefit it provides.<br /><br /><br />Vambraces of Vampirism<br />If the wearer is below his maximum HP, the wearer receives +1 HP For every successful damage-inflicting hit the wearer scores against an opponent.<br /><br />Give these to Iuz (or the major "boss" monster in 2008) and have this UR be available in the dungeon only, and only if the monster is defeated.<br /><br /><br />Can you imagine the in-party struggles for this 2008 Dungeon-Only UR?<br />

Or maybe - in a booster token set in the Nov/Dec/Jan timeframe   =D

Looks like someone needs STAGE 2 INTERVENTION!

I'd like to see a few items for slots that aren't over-used, yet. I mean, really, We don't need more rings, or more amulets. (Not that people wouldn't jump at the chance to collect yet another one, if the option came up)<br /><br />How about something else for the head? Only the big fighter types can wear a helm... maybe a hat for the others.<br />Hat of the Magi? Wizards Hat? (imagining a pointy Gandalf-like hat)... Gives +1 AC to Wizards only? Or make it less class-specific, maybe a Circlet of Defense?<br /><br />I'd also like to see a Belt, since we already have a Girdle.<br /><br />Another Cloak would be cool. Or maybe Robes.<br /><br />Maybe another pair of Gloves or Gauntlets, to add some variety to the currently existing options.<br /><br /> - Raven

Well I have to jump in now...<br /><br />In a similar vein...I'd like to see multi-slot items, like a staff that lets you add a ring...<br /><br />OR a braclet that stacks (it is a 0 slot item) with Gloves and Bracers and does something...<br /><br />OR a psychatery (spelling, guess I could have just said arm-band) (it is a 0 slot item) that could give some perk like the Boots of free action - good for Rogues who want to keep the Elf Boots on, yet desire the Free action thing...<br /><br />Consider these types of items similar to MULTI-LANDS - most of us know how WONDERFUL Multi-lands are in Magic...<br /><br />We could even counter-act Power Creep by making some of these new items follow PAIN-LANDS, and have them deal 1-2 points of damage to activate.<br /><br />oooo the potential!

Ummm. Isn't all of that just power creep galore even with the damage? I mean, if you can 'afford' to get teh equip, a point or two or HP isn't going to phase you. That's a common to fix.

Well the Staff+Ring is a pretty good non-creep.<br /><br />How many CHARs would use a STAFF as a weapon...IT would COST the monk an extra open hand attack...it would not keep the WIZ from using spells...but this was mainly though up for the WIZ...<br /><br />I see it as a very nice balanced multi!<br /><br />The armband - same thing - mainly for the Rogue...<br /><br />The bracelet - could be something minor...+1 damage vs undead if turning (stacks with MWHoly symbol)<br /><br />How you like them taters now?

<br /><br />LOL<br /><br />My WIFE sure things I need a mind-wipe.  I've done nothing but talk about tokens (and TD itself) since July of 2006.  Poor wife.<br /><br />Oh, and I get THE LOOK of EVIL when I talk about wanting to buy more tokens.  That, "I'm not telling you a fourth time" look.  Yeah, I went around her the last three times and told her after the fact.  Doh!<br />

I dunno. It's a fine line to travel really when you try to balance items. That's why I've always advocated more headon conflict. When you have 5 amulets and only 1 neck...it's clear that a decision has to be made and that each precludes the other. When it gets complex, you have to be more careful of balance issues, not to mention it tends to limit future development directions sometimes just so some super-effective combo dosen't crop up based on past incremental steps.

The chance for a Turn one Juggernaut in play is not really so likely in this game...<br /><br />I don't disagree with you - more options in the slots is COOL - more IOUNs, more Gloves, more boots...sure, we are getting there.  But while we do that - I don't see anything wrong with more D&D style things, like the arm-band, the braclets, etc.
