TOPIC: Very old tokens

Very old tokens 14 years 11 months ago #1

Okay, I found some of my tokens I got from years ago when I played True Dungeon at the first Gen Con SoCal (I believe this was back in 2003). Back then, they were wooden tokens. So, are these tokens still usable, or are they now junk?

It depends on which ones they are. I would guess near all of the 2003 tokens would have a premium.

Not looking to sell them. Planning on a trip in 2011, and wondering if the tokens are valid, or now just collector's items/junk.

Yes, they'd still be valid.

You really should trade/sell them. There's almost nothing from 03 that doesn't suck donkeyballs in comparison to later iterations. You can thank power creep for that. Just make sure you don't get ripped off in the exchange.

Good point. The old tokens are very nice as collectibles, but few are useful in the game compared to Chip tokens. I always use wooden tokens when possible since they are lighter, and in my entire binder of tokens for the group, I just have a handful of wooden tokens left, the rest have all been superseded by Chip tokens.

Weren't there some 2003 weapons that are no longer playable due to no damage wheel?

Nope, all 2003 (and 2004) weapons that are no longer playable due to no damage wheel.

Ratto Zatto,
I dont collect tokens like that (i am mostly into URs). So if you were trading I am a person to ask if it is fair. I am sure a few other would volunteer as well to give you advice if trading them

Other than the early wooden (2003/2004) weapons (as mentioned above) and the scroll of light (2003) all other wooden tokens can be used in the dungeon.

As you have probably seen, however, they are fairly collectable now, and you might consider either trading them for resin/chip equivalents (plus a bit more to sweeten the deal). Or just holding on to them. There are a fair number of collectors that should be able to make you a reasonable deal for trade rather than see you turn in a consumable 2003 token for me to destroy...

Dave

Oooo, is that what's going to happen to the wooden weapons, armor, GP, and gem tokens I turn in at Gen Con? Maybe you could get permission to burn them out back in the parking lot so we could all watch?

I'm not sure I could handle that, I might have to run into the flames to try to save them! Of course, I'd have my Dragonscale Set, so maybe I'd be OK ;/
