TOPIC: Death question

Death question 13 years 11 months ago #1

A few questions here;

1) Does the HoP have to be worn all game like the RoR?

2) If you die, do you still get treasure tokens at the end of the run IF:

a) only you (and maybe a few others) die and the party still succeeds in completing the run?*

b) you die and so does the party?*

*assuming at least one was earned on the card pre-death.

3) What are the 4 blocks that appear in the Medallion of Greyhawk? Are those item use numbers? IE - is the Medallion a consumeable item?

Thanks!

I answered 1) its Yes, and has to be stated during the traning phase and not switched the entire game. Go token guide!

MoG the 4 blocks are for the def of 4c combo (suppose to be hard to make)
HoP..what ever treasure rooms you survive..you get..so if you die in the last room..most likely you got through 3 treasure rooms (if you solved those rooms) you get the pulls.

The Medallion of Greyhawk is a permanent item. The 4 blocks (cauldrons) have nothing at all to do with charges or uses. Those are more a representation of power level (specifically, the difficulty to construct).

And any treasure you earn, you get. Even in the case of a TPK (Total Party Kill). I think you even get treasure that your party earns after you die. So, if you die in the third room, but you party gets all the treasure stamps, you still get full treasure. Can someone verify that that's the way it works? I'm pretty sure, though.

Being dead at the end of the adventure only means that you don't get a survivor pin. You still get treasure. Your xp is based on the last room you were alive in, so if you get killed in the final room, you still get full xp. If you die in room 3, come back in room 5 and die again in room 6, I think you get xp for getting to room 6. Normally, there wouldn't be a gap like that (tokens that raise you have to be used in the room where you died). But there will occasionally be a way to raise a dead party member further along in the dungeon (like one year's resurrection altar puzzle). If you die in the final battle, but at least one member of your party survives, and then raises you from the dead before leaving the dungeon, then I'm pretty sure you get a survivor pin.

This thread made me a bit nostalgic for the actual specter of Death being called to collect the souls of the departed. Good times.

And even better times when you got the chance to slay Death for an opportunity to return. Wonderfully decorated room, too, If I recall.

Really? I never knew that. I remember the Death costumed-NPC, but I didn't know you had a chance to come back via combat. How did that work? Was there a combat board backstage or something?

If I recall, that only happened one year. You were taken to a fanatically atmospheric decaying feast hall- and got a single slide. If you got a natural 20 against a tough target, you got brought back. Very neat.

This was some time ago, so if anyone can make corrections to the above, please do so!

Sounds like you've got excellent recall, WSP.

Of course, Death had a twisted sense of humour, and made some of us slide left-handed :P

And Death paid for his twisted sense of humor and failed to claim his victim!

You cheated (errrr.... out slid?) Death, Kithren?
Kudos!

That's one slide that really counted! B)

No, I cannot claim such legendary sliding ability. That skill belongs to Guildmaster Nightshade. It is part of the reason she is so reknowned throughout Greyhawk and the reason that I feel much safer when she is part of any adventuring party that I am a part of.
