TOPIC: Is there another way to get trade tokens?

Is there another way to get trade tokens? 10 years 11 months ago #1

For the first time, I bought the $250 token pack this year. I have never transmuted a token before, but it looks like I have less than half of what I'd need to exchange for one of the 2014 tokens (excluding the one-use ones). Do I just need to keep collecting/trading? I looked at Gamingetc and it would cost over $500 to buy the rest of what I need for the cloak that gives you +4 to saves.

Sorry for all the noob questions!

Gaming Etc is on the high side for trade token value but not too bad.

Yes, it costs quite a bit to make a relic item. It was designed that way to make the relics something to work towards. Most people are never going to see a relic unless they buy one that is already constructed.

The good side of that is that relics sell for less than they cost to make. Right now on eBay there are +3 Mithral Bracers for a starting bid of $120.

So, why do people make relics and legendary tokens then? Well, I am not a big purchaser but I did buy a $2K order this year. The relic and legendary tokens give us somewhere to use all those extra tokens that would otherwise have sat around.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

Yes they are certainly something you build toward, or spend lots of money on, all by design to keep them rare and special.

Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of tokens! :)

You will get a 5% discount on your entire Gaming Etc. order by using the code "TDFORUM".

I'm not suggesting a 5% discount would make your purchases affordable, but it's something to keep in mind.

When you actually have enough tokens, I'm not clear on something. Can you mail in the individual components (e.g. 25 units of armor) or do you first need to get the trade good and then mail only the actual ingredients in? Can you transmute a token at GenCon?

Likewise, since I don't have enough common tokens to get the trade goods to get the transmuted item I want, is it a good idea to convert all of the common goods that I can into trade goods while at GenCon? If only to save on shipping and hassles later and make them easier to count?

You need to have the trade goods in hand. So mail in your 25 units, get the trade goods mailed back, mail in the trade goods, get your transmute mailed back.

Yes, so its a bit of a time saver since you can get your trade goods made then get back in line to turn them in for whatever you want to make.

Basically yes (I also like to try and compress as much of the gold I get at the con into reserve bars before I head home).

Is this accurate?
I know that you can do a transmute at GenCon for the special transmutable tokens, but in past years they didn't allow trade tokens to be transmuted at the Con.

This restriction was relaxed a bit for players from different countries, but as far as I know the trade tokens still had to be mailed in prior to GenCon, officially.

So if I want to transmute an item at GenCon I would need to have all of my regular chips already converted to trade goods in advance?

Of course then I should probably just mail in the regular tokens for the transmuted token by mail.

What about consolidating GP, do they do that?

If I'm a few trade goods short, should I buy them from gamingetc online before the show or at their booth there?

You could post a want list here and see what people are offering to trade/sell tokens for, or you could peruse the threads people have started so they can sell/trade their tokens :)
