TOPIC: What do they do with tokens you send in?

What do they do with tokens you send in? 10 years 11 months ago #1

When you send tokens in for trade goods or transmuting a token, what do they do with them?

Do they re-label them, do they put them in the treasure box, or just toss them?

Just curious is all.

The truth is a closely guarded secret.

There are several rumours/guesses about what happens, though.

1) They are used to fill a dragon's hoard. (This was a running joke for several years, until the dragon Smoak made her appearance and she was - quite literally - sitting on a treasure trove of tokens. So many tokens they had to be cleaned up with shovels and 5-gallon pails.)

2) They are all dumped into a giant landfill, outside some obscure town in the MidWest. Years from now, brave adventurers will unearth them, rather like the treasure hunters looking for the semi-mythical Nintendo landfill.

3) They are recycled into that year's treasure generators.
(This theory probably has some merits, since Jeff asked that transmutes at WhosYerCon using exclusively 2014 tokens were in separate bags, marked as "2014")

The truth may be a combination of the above.

Or it might involved token-peddling drug cartels. :)

I always thought that the metal core was actually a tiny recording device. The tokens turned in were then turned over to the NSA for review.

It's all part of a nefarious plot I tell you!

The current ones seem to get repackaged for GenCon, based on an observation that the occassional older token appears in the starters there, but I've never heard of one in the first orders.

Older ones are glued together in long tubes to build a log cabin for retired adventurers.

Though the last may only be a rumor that I made up just now.

Ever seen Scrooge McDuck swimming in the bank vault? Jeff does that with your tokens... or at least I'm pretty sure.

Also Smaug in the Hobbit is a potential backup image there.

Picc, you know you just gave Jeff an idea for a GT special room don't you?

I can see it now, a Token Golem that can pull weapons and other things out of his body which he can use to attack the party.

I just drive a semi-trailer up a few times a year and load them all up. It saves Jeff a ton in storage costs
