TOPIC: Gloves of Dexterity to Gloves of the Cutpurse

What are the pros, cons, and general thoughts on whether one ought to trade-in the old Gloves of Dexterity for Gloves of the Cutpurse .

Depending on class.

more AC and Reflex save
but minus to strength

So for bow build Ranger... Cutpurse is way better.

Depends on your build.

As a player, comparing the two, is +1 AC, +1 REF, +1/+0 range
worth -1/-1 melee? For wizards and bow Rangers, probably.

But if your build makes it +2 AC, +2 REF, +2/+0 range, then it's obviously much more attractive.

But I don't wear either. My cleric needs all the help to hit I can get, and I trust my Eldritch plus Beer Goggles and FoP Cat, so I wear Gloves of Brute, which is the opposite of Cutpurse.

But as a collector, I want one of each, so I personally wouldn't trade my last Gloves of Dex.

I'm on the fence myself on whether to trade in my Chippie Gloves of Dexterity.

I agree that build & class absolutely matter. That's part of the reason I wanted to get everyone's thoughts. I'd love to hear detailed opinions.

After further consideration, I think I will swap my one Chip Gloves of Dexterity for the Gloves of the Cutpurse. Our Rogue can use it. She's strictly a ranged build, using a +2 Flaming Shortbow, so the loss of two points of strength is pretty meaningless for her, and the bonus Dex will be a nice boost.

On the other hand, I'm definitely not swapping in the two Wooden Gloves of Dexterity, as they are part of my 2005b and 2006 sets.

the way I see it: if you were going to wear the gloves of dex (instead of a STR item, even ogre power rare), then you want to switch to the gloves of the cutpurse. you can make other small adjustments elsewhere to get your stats back on even numbers.

For wearing

I think Gloves of the Cutpurse knock the socks off Gloves of Dexterity.

Rationale:

For a melee build, I'm not wearing Gloves of Dexterity or the Cutpurse, period, I'm wearing Gloves of the Brute, Mithral Gauntlets, Gauntlets of Linked Fury, or Gloves of Weapon Finesse.

So... I know if I'm thinking of using Gloves of the Cutpurse, I know I'm not in a melee build.

For ranged build I think I'd take an additional +1/2 to hit, AC, and reflex at no downside, or even the downside of -1 to damage if I have a Mighty ranged weapon vs. Gloves of Dexterity.

This is doubly true now that your DEX starts off odd, unless you have a RoSP Complete/Segment 6, Ioun Stone Quicksilver Sphere, or Viper Strike Belt (which I think are the only other odd DEX items in the game).

For a spellcaster build I might consider dropping Gloves of Glory and my 3rd best ring for +2/3 AC, Reflex, and to-hit on spell slides in Grind.




For selling:

I think Gloves of Dexterity are not very valuable on the secondary market, so I'd be happy to make the trade for economic reasons.

For collecting:

I'd keep the Gloves of Dexterity for complete set conductibility reasons only.

As a wizard, I would totally wear the Gloves of the Cutpurse, but it's a moot point b/c I wear the Gloves of Glory for the extra ring slot.

I guess that means that I'll only get the +1 bonus because I already have the rod segment. But perhaps in a future year another odd dex bonus will be introduced.

Mithral boots are an odd dex, though I doubt many wear them.

If you have an Amulet of Wonder , will you be wearing that this year in lieu of Gloves of Glory ?
