TOPIC: Gen Con 2015 Ticket Price...

I wanted to let everyone know ASAP regarding a difficult decision we had to make today. Unfortunately, we have had to raise the ticket price this year from $48 to $52 (for a 2-hour adventure) due to rising event fees and expenses. I guess the "glass is half full" side effect of this price increase will be the small reduction in the demand for tickets. In 2014 we "sold out" very quickly and some volunteers and token buyers had difficulty getting event tickets. Hopefully, this ticket price increase will serve to negate the expected rise in demand for TD tickets due to the expected growth of Gen Con general attendance in 2015 (and the pretty good show we put on in 2014).

Lori and I much appreciate your understanding in this matter, and I completely understand if this gives you pause when deciding whether to buy TD tickets this year. I hope you will decide to play.

I understand, and as long as the tickets keep selling out I think it is a reasonable price (I'd prefer to keep quality and experience up). If at some point there are challenges selling all of the tickets then it might be a tougher decision of whether the price should be lowered along with the quality and experience.

Personally, True Dungeon is the single gaming experience I look forward to the most every year so I really want it to be incredible and don't mind paying for it. I do understand that for some people it will be a bigger deal though.

Is there any status on this? The date has come and gone and I haven't seen anything. Does this mean I haven't won or has it been delayed?

On Feb. 20th, 2015, we will hold a special drawing from the names of all the 2015 token buyers to date. Ten lucky token buyers will win. Each winner can "pre-buy" up to 10 tickets (from one slot) before anyone else! Winners will be contacted on Feb. 20th and have until Feb. 25th to pick their event slot (and pay for the tickets). If we do not hear back from a winner by Feb. 25th, then another name will be drawn. True Dungeon event tickets go on sale for everyone in May. For every 10-pack you buy, we put your name in the virtual hat. Winners are guaranteed to get the exact slot they want without having to worry about the crazy time during event registration. You still have to buy the tickets at the normal price.

Price hikes are always a bitter pill, but what ya gonna do. If the con charges more for space there really isn’t any getting around it. Thanks for the heads up and the transparency Jeff.

I'm sure Jeff didn't want to presell until he knew what the price would be. So, now that that's settled, if they haven't gone out already, I'd expect to see a note in the next day or two that the winners will have been notified.

I don't blame you, Jeff. I don't even blame GenCon. It's just the cost of living taking effect yet again. 'Murica.

Ouch, I was really not looking forward to the ticket prices going over $50 per ticket. I'm wondering how many members of my group will decide to quit based on the above $50 price. I hope at least most of my group comes back, but I'm not sure. That price gives me a pause, and I'm a LOT more hardcore than the rest of my friends.

I am pretty sure if I'd never played True Dungeon, I'd probably not start with that as the ticket price. I do suspect that it will still be a pretty quick sell-out, based on how quickly it sold out last year, and the increasing GENCON attendance each year. It will be interesting to see if breaking the $50 barrier has much of an impact on ticket sales.

Bummer. Well, time to start saving up.

You can already do that! Just buy all the extra slots you want to.

Personally I'm going to attempt to buy at least three full 10-slot runs and fill up the slots I have left with people from the forums. I'm not necessarily going to get all the way to the full 10 people though. I do have some treasure-enhancing tokens for the phantom players

Ouch, but I plan to play one slot. My Paladin finally has a +2 Holy Sword, so I'm ready to take on the evils in the dungeon!
