Now that we're (hopefully) done with armor and weapons for legendary transmutes, I'm hopeful to see some usable by all transmutes.

The Neck and Hand slots are the most well established slots that have no legendary transmutes.

The neck especially presents a big design challenge because it is home to so many interesting effects.

A high level breakdown of all existing neck slot items would net out something like:

Defensive items: 25
Stat boosters: 8
Magic boosters: 5
Offensive items: 4
Single class specific: 2
Slot manipulation: 2
Treasure boosters: 2
Level boosters: 1

And then there are a few miscellaneous ones (Amulet of Wonder, the Psychic granting one, and can breathe underwater).

Looking at the more desirable UR ones only, it's more like:

Stat boosters: 3
Treasure boosters: 2
Slot manipulation: 2

And then misc effects: Level boost, Amulet of Guarding, Amulet of Wonder, Medallion of Mystic Mouth and Necklace of Fireballs.


So - in designing a neck slot item that appeals to as many people as possible, it seems hard. But! I draw inspiration from this year's Odin Medallions.

What if the legendary neck slot item granted in addition to whatever it does: May equip an additional neck slot item that does not impact the party card. Then all the wacky stuff the neck slot does can stay diverse.

Maybe then for the neck slot item it could be like:

UR Defensive Focus: +2 AC and HP, +1 to saves

Relic: +3 to STR/DEX/CON, +1 to saves

Legendary: +3 to STR/DEX/CON, +1 to saves, may equip a neck slot item that does not impact the party card.


Perhaps the Relic recipe to could accept any of the UR Defensive 2019, and also Amulet of the Champion, Medallion of Valhalla, and Stu-pendous Pendant.

Does that sound appealing to anyone?

Depending on if we include amulet of wonder or not we have
Amulet of guarding
Medallion of mystic mouth
Necklace of fireballs

That don't affect the party card or expand slots at UR.

A lot of effects at Rare
Psychic
No 50% miss
Etc

I think wizards and paladins would love it.

Others, not as much
Too many things affect the party card.

I was hoping the ability to equip stuff like:

Dragon Tooth Amulet
Medallion of Greyhawk
Medallion of Mystic Mouth
Amulet of Guarding
Medallion of the Third Eye

Might get it over the hump. It might also give rise to neat neck slot items in the future, making all the ones that don't effect the party card premium, stuff like:

Immune to non-magic missile
50% miss chance from melee
Damage reduction
Things that grant free action effects

But - if it's not your cup of tea I get it.

What if you could also put in a Charm Necklace or Hand of Glory, would that get it over the hump do you think?

Yes, being able to put either of those in there would make it amazing.

Possibly a problem for character generators, but awesome.

I love the idea of a transmuted Odin’s-medallion-like token. Limiting the bonus to non-party-card-affecting neck slot tokens is great on coaches and app builders. At the Legendary perhaps it allows any extra token? I loved the build variety that Odin’s Medallion opened up.

That could create an interesting model for dealing with perminant items coming out of gt runs. Gt runners get a unique item X, along with some manner of skill test to decide if its permanent. The following year we create an equivalent legendary. It might be seen to diminish the specialness of the gt items but on the other hand it would make the effects more widely known and the gt runners would still have had the unique beta version for a year before the regular legendary came out.

I could see it as 2 years out. That way the GT is a little more special, and more importantly we give the players a chance to break it and let us nerf it before making it into a token we then have to errata or whatever.

I guess the short version is how about next year?

I like the idea of more class-centric relics, it gives “mini-quests” for people to chase based on their preferred class.

There’s also a few UR’s that could make cool legendaries. The Amulet of Guarding progressing to providing save bonuses to guard targets (sort of like a holy aura) would be a cool one.

It's probably way overpowered, but how cool would it be for a Paladin with a Legendary Amulet of Guarding to take hits for the entire party?

I was thinking something more like:

Hallowed Amulet of Guarding: same as AoG and guarded players get +1 to saves

Sil’s Sacred Amulet of Guarding: same as Hallowed AoG and paladin gets a second sacrifice (but can only sacrifice 1/room) - for them epick runz!
