So since reappearing this preorder cycle, I've started getting questions from multiple people and I wanted to share some details on what has been going on. Apologies for the long post, but I wanted to make sure I answered any questions that may still be out there. So without further ado...

Why I started, why I stepped away, and why I'm coming back

When I first got into True Dungeon, I was a new player, and one of the first things I noticed was how big the gap was between what tokens actually traded for in the auction community and what the same tokens sold for on public sites and in individual stores — sometimes a $50 token going for $120 elsewhere. That gap bothered me. If I could get a token for $50 and pass it along for $55, wasn't that better for someone who didn't know auctions existed, or didn't have access to them? That question is what started Utaku's Trade Caravan.

What I didn't expect was how quickly that turned into something real. At RingCon, people started coming up to me in person just to say hi or grab a picture, and that genuinely caught me off guard. It was the first time the impact felt tangible instead of just numbers and messages online, and it's a big part of what pushed me to go from something small into building out a full auction platform.

From there I tried to widen that access — not just for people active on the forums, but for the larger TD community as a whole, by building it out onto its own site. It grew faster than I expected: over 30 auctions in about three months, plus sponsoring other players' auctions so they could run their own with the same tools and the same shot at success. Along the way I built a reputation I'm proud of — people trusted me to run things fairly — and some of my favorite moments were helping brand-new players find their way into the builds they wanted at prices a lot closer to what I wish I'd had access to when I was starting out myself. Behind the scenes, though, it was all held together by a fairly serious Excel-based bid management system I'd built myself — solid, but entirely manual, right down to messaging every winner myself.

A few things came together that eventually pushed me to step back. The workload was a big piece of it — that volume of bid tracking and winner communication by hand wasn't sustainable long-term. But it wasn't only that. Pricing that competitively also had a real cost: for some longtime collectors, it meant real value coming out of collections they'd built over time, and I heard about that impact directly, a lot, in ways that were hard to sit with. And around the same time, a broader storefront auction option came along with more reach than my own site and some automation of its own — not the same approach I'd built, but close enough to a lot of what I'd set out to do that stepping back didn't feel like walking away from something the community still needed.

So I took the time to step back, recover a bit, and get back in touch with why I started this in the first place.

Coming back now is really about three things.

The time away did some real good beyond just the business side of it — it gave me space to reset mentally, and with my daughter heading into her teenage years, the extra time with my family has meant more than I expected it to.

The other big piece is that the tools finally caught up to what I actually needed. I don't have a developer background, but with AI-assisted coding I was able to build a real platform this time instead of running everything through Excel by hand — one that handles bid tracking and allocation on its own and gives everyone a much better experience than I could ever manage manually. That's the part that actually solves the problem that wore me out the first time, not just gives me more energy to push through it again.

And the last piece is timing. The Golden Ticket now comes guaranteed with every 8K pack instead of being a chance pull, and that changes the math on what it takes to make running an auction worthwhile. I wanted my funding numbers to reflect that, which is part of why I lowered my own threshold this time around — there's more room to pass savings back to the people bidding, and I want to use it.

At the end of the day, my reputation is built on one thing: getting the best pricing I can to as many people as possible, not just the regulars, but new and returning players alike, so more people can get the tokens they need for their transmutes, actually play the game, and enjoy True Dungeon the way I've been lucky enough to for the past seven years. That's still the whole point.

Glad to be back, and happy to answer anything about where things stand or where I'm hoping to take it.
