TOPIC: Non-Standard Shuffleboard Table for In Person Events

Non-Standard Shuffleboard Table for In Person Events 2 days 18 hours ago #1

I am still new to True Dungeon. I am wondering if there has ever been monster fighters where there have been non-standard shuffleboard tables?
  • Either with obstacles that you either have to avoid or bounce off of to land on the monster on the board.
  • Another thought that came to mind was having the shuffleboard table having a ramps or slides to also change how hard or soft you would need to slide your puck across the table.

If these have been discussed in the past and ultimately passed on I would be curious as to why.

In the past - there have been modifications to the monster boards.

A couple from memory:

Smoak the Dragon - an extra large board that was "high gloss" and very slick

A Ship's Defense System computer had an obstacle barrier (think a piece of wood with much smaller holes in it) - that if you destroyed the "switch" it would disappear leaving the Golem open to normal attacks.

I'm pretty sure the obstacle technique was used on another adventure but I don't remember the specifics.

There was a Medusa who put snakes on the board as obstacles.

Also at one of the Carbondale events there were gems (or crystals?) put on the board but they weren’t much of an obstacle — you could slide through them.

I agree it would be cool to see more done with the combat boards on occasion.
Classes Played: Barbarian (75 times), Monk (64), Rogue (39), Ranger (37), Cleric (22), Fighter (16), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (11), Bard (8), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

+1, would be great to see more done with the combat boards. And would also be nice to see some additional different beads, leafs, symbols for the crafter classes. My 12 year plays Wizard once a year at Gen Con and he says memorizing the symbols is way too easy and would be more fun if the test was tougher.

Rob, oy, it took me forever to memorize the cleric beads. Don’t go swapping that up on me!

As for combat boards, I love when things get mixed up and would welcome this happening at least 1-2 at gencon (my only on person). My favorite was the succubus (?) literally hovering over the table distracting the party.

All I'm saying is that if people have the memorizing down pat and can pick things out 100% of the time what fun is that? I'm guessing most people want at least a bit of a challenge right? My kid sure does. Maybe keep beads, leaves, etc the same for 2 years then switch it up every 2 years.

It just means they are a very skilled spellcaster/diviner. They can always try another class and learn a new set of symbols/beads/leaves.
