Don't forget untargeted effects, like dragon breath.

I think it would definitely have to be worked into the adventure from the start to allow these creative solutions...

I.e. Against a wolf, maybe throw a turkey leg to distract it while you do the room...

Against a dwarf, maybe be offer it at the beginning some dwarven ale... But if battle already engaged, too late.

For consistency, GM's shouldn't be able to just change the scenario for their room... But have the script written to allow specific creative solutions.

I am looking forward to my first True Grind. I heard last year there were some creative solutions.

There were, but pacifism and grind are polar extremes although pacifism grind would be hilarious although hiding from or talking with the monsters i have seen on grind would be difficult and strange

Grind at WYC 2014. In the first room a booming voice tells the party it has no quarrel with them and they may withdraw honorably and unmolested. One of the members of our party responded that there was an item in the lair that we had to retrieve to save a local lord.

I suppose we could have just said, "cool, we're out of here then." There's your pacifist grind. :P :P :P
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I had an idea for a run that I thought would be hilarious, but the tix are just so darn expensive I'm not sure the joke would be worth it. But I would love to see the reactions.

Isn't there an item that sets your Health to1 if push damage would kill you? Would that work in the last room if you don't kill the last monster ?

This is what you are thinking of. Except I bet the last room doesn't kill you with push damage. It has some other way to kill you if you are not successful in the allotted time.
You either discover a star or you don't. You arrogant punk.

I wonder what ever happened to that genie, I hope she's doing ok. Its not often we get to leave NPCs on good terms (well some groups anyway)

To be a "survivor," in room 7 you must (a) solve the puzzle or kill the monster or, in very rare cases, make a truce with it (in Giants Travail you could befriend the recently-charmed giant if and only if you killed the undead sorceress who had enslaved him) AND (b) not be dead.

If you took push damage out of room 7 or the last monster is alive and hostile, regardless of whether you're alive, no soup for you, because you didn't fulfill the first condition.

Ok, that makes sense.... Not worth having the figurine of power: cricket then.
