25% Uncommons
35% Rares
35% Monster Bits
1% UR
2.5% low-level Transmute
0.5% Relic
0.5% 5,000 GP Bar
0.5% 10,000 GP Bar

I think it would be great if the monster ingredient token percentage were knocked down to 25% or 30%, and the difference (5% or 10%) were made up of older tokens, rares and above. If Jeff and the crew were just to set aside all the older tokens turned in at Rare (or maybe Uncommon) or higher quantities during transmuting including older monster bits, and Jeff were to toss in some older stuff from the treasure hoard (like transmutes that were left over), it should be easy to get the needed older tokens for the treasure boxes. And I think 25% 2016 monster bits is a better percentage than 35%.

If that 35% was divided to 25% 2016 monster bits and 10% older tokens (rare, older monster bits, older transmutes, etc.) I would be fine with that. Basically saying 10% is a throw back to older items and it would save Jeff some money!

I would like that distribution as long as the lower level transmutes are not the commons now. This being the first year where two commons and 50gp make a transmute that wouldn't be worth a 2.5% share.

Ed

my understanding for the 2.5% low-level transmute being on this list is because in previous years there was a small percentage of 'transmutes'...lets just go with 1% of the pulls were transmutes. but if you managed to get one of those 1% pulls, it was completely random as to whether it was a relic or a low-level. it was a bit dis-heartening to pull what should have been an interesting/exciting token (at least not another uncommon/rare), but instead you are sad, because there went your 1% chance at a REALLY good pull. so now, we have a 0.5% relic chance, and all the other low-level transmutes have their own entry.
this is not a signature.

jedibcg wrote: Both you and Kirk though make the assumption that tokens turned in for transmuting are less desirable than other tokens. I don't think that is a fair assumption, at least on a large scale.

Actually, I had the same concern with Kirk and agree with it substantially. In terms of transmuting, I put my purchases into a few categories:

1. Items that could make a "best in slot" rare build.
2. Items that can not.
3. Healing potions.
4. Things required in transmute recipes, occasionally particularly good consumables, or other random good stuff that has universal appeal.

Then I send back for transmutation everything in category #2.

That means, from my pool of transmutes, here are the rares that _won't_ be showing up in the treasure generator:

+2 Cloak of Resistance
Belt of Vitality
Boots of Agility
Bracers of Archery
Crown of Iron Will
Darkling Void Armor
Earcuff of Insipiration
Fiendish Charm
Gauntlets of Ogre Power
Ioun Stone Iridescent Spindle
Medallion of Focus
Pantaloons of the Underdark
Potion Thrall Ale
Scroll Cure Moderate Wounds
Scroll Magic Spear
Scroll Mind Blank
Shield of the Prism
Staff of Focus
Thrall Captain Armor

And here are the Rares that _will_ be showing up:

All the +1 Weapons
All the GP
Cloak of the Footpad
Figurine of Power: Salamander
Frost Runestone
Goggles of Seeking
Lyre of Echoes
Oil of Holiness
Pants of Springing
Potion Firey Ice Lager
Potion Polymorph (Brownie)
Sling Bullet of Thunder
Thrall Scale Armor
Wand of Lava Blasts

Basically if the returned tokens make up a big portion of the treasure tokens, I think you will see the odds of nice rares like +2 Cloak of Resistance, Staff of Focus, Gauntlets of Ogre Power, Boots of Agility, and Pantaloons of the Underdark low and the odds of relatively useless stuff like Sling Bullet of Thunder and Potion Firey Ice Lager higher.

I'll agree that as far as weapons and armor goes that shouldn't be a big shift in terms of what is available.

Maybe not "all along," but for as long as I've been transmuting, TPTB have always asked for current-year tokens to be segregated.

Since its likely that there will be Fleeces rather than Bits at WYC, it raises the question of the percentage of Fleeces. Lets say its 10% (probably high, but this is a thought exercise). How does the remaining 25% get reallocated?

I guess I'm alone in that I wouldn't like old monster bits since it seems anti-thematic to me. However as I've said before I do like the idea of 5% "specials" even if 2.5% of that is cheap transmutes.

Current trophies will always be more valuable than retro, just because they can be used for recipes other than Fleece. But, I think retro bits would be ok for the retro dungeons at WYC. I know that, mathematically, 2.5% Fleece is the same as 25% bits, but that's only true in the long run. The much higher variance of Fleece may encourage people with fewer than 1000 draws to hold their loot for GenCon, like many did last year.

But some will prefer the lottery-like aspect of going for Fleece. It's hard to say. You can't really go by last year, because people were deciding with imperfect information. Make a call, communicate it well in advance, and see how people vote with their loot chips.

I agree. If we have no info on either GenCon or WYC treasure mixes like last year then I'll definitely show up to GenCon with hundreds of treasure draws... But information could prompt me to use some or all at WYC.

Open question: How do you feel about the possibilty of minor spoilers coming from this years monsters bits?

Personally Im ok with it as I suspect such spoilers would only effect the relitivly small hardcore portion of the gencon playerbase that also attends wyc and reads the forms. Im also ok with old bits too though, the variance of fleece draws would also probably make me hold my draws if that was an option again.

If it's 2.5% I'll definitely want to hold until GenCon.
