What to do with a full run? (moved) 8 years 4 months ago #1

I bought the full run for Behold Her Majesty combat Thursday 6:26 pm. The plan was to run it with 7 friends who normally go to GenCon with me. However, 5 of them (1 family) have decided to not go this year. So I need to figure out what to do with the run.

Options:
1. I normally run each dungeon with a group I met playing TD about 4 years ago. They tried to get tickets for each of the runs, but only wound-up with the 2 Behold Her Majesty runs. So they don't want to play in this run. However, if somebody had a full run of either "Into the Deeperdark" runs and a similar problem, then we could swap the full runs. This would be an ideal solution, but I fear it would be unlikely to find such a trade.

2. I could plan a Sealed Pack, Green with Envy, Nightmare with Reds, or similar fun run.

3. I could try to find 7 interested players for a Hardcore or Nightmare run with my 2 friends who are still going and me .

4. I could sell the run (least favorite option).

I have interest for 7 players. My son has a group of friends and like to run combat. In the frenzy of event day, all I could get was for them was 8 spots in a puzzle run Thursday afternoon. I was going to be the 8th, but my volunteer schedule will not permit. The group can easily run hardcore.

Drop me a PM.

I must say this "run ownership"/ secondary market for tickets if ridiculous. This will be my last TD event because casuals are clearly being excluded by the ticket snatching, market-cornering, over-purchasers. This is at least the 3rd time I've seen this forum where someone has bought "an entire run" then has to "figure out" what to do with the extra/unused tickets.

While all pass it off as "my friends backed out," I'm quite sure the majority of the stories are "just buy them all and figure out what to do with them."

This'll be my 4th GenCon, but it's the first time I've seen the tix randsomed like this... very unfortunate.

Here's a thought, if you can't use the tix, release them for others who are constantly checking the GenCon site in the hops that the over-purchasers will cancel.

Many of these tickets do get returned, at gencon. Since we're past prereg deadline extra tickets either get sold here via forums or get returned once onsite as online returnability is no longer available.

Lot of us buy runs as that's the only absolute way to guarantee playing at a specific higher difficulty level as all it takes is 1 vote and lvl is stuck at normal. Also some of want to play class X and by buying/organizing the run can make sure of it. It's not a ideal situation but much better than what you make it out to be.

Beertram, sorry for derailment if i could make the run i'd vote for a greedy sealed but alas volunteering means i can't make it either way. Good luck with whatever you end up doing with it.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

If you want to YAGE , that's your prerogative. But perhaps there's more to this situation than you realize...

On what evidence do you base that claim?

The practice of buying full runs is nothing new.

I've been on this forum for nearly a decade. I have never witnessed someone ransoming or scalping a ticket. When our forumites sell tickets they own, they're sold for face value.

If you had a bunch of buddies that you wanted to play with, what would be a better method of ensuring you can all be on the same run? That's not sarcasm. If a better way exists, we'd absolutely love to utilize it.

Many tickets are/have been released back into the system. But for those who are still going on the run with the remainder of their friends, it's a great help to be able to decide on classes in advance. In addition, it's possible to share builds so that party card stats can be generated in advance. Did you know that anyone who arrives in the coaching room with pre-calculated stats get +1 to their max HP?

Many users of this forum, veterans and first-timers, have successfully formed groups here. Sometimes they even result in long-term friendships. If I may be so bold, perhaps trying to work with the system would yield less frustrating results than attempting to say how horrible we all are.

If by ransomed, you mean scalped, that is not what is going on. If someone tried to buy up tickets to resell at a profit the community would land on them like a ton of bricks.

Considering everyone has the exact same chances to get tickets, sorry I have no sympathy for anyone that didn't get any. Many of us were WAY down in the line but were still able to get tickets.

Though if anyone is reselling tickets at greater than face value, please let us and Gen Con know because that is against the rules.

For those of us who volunteer full time it is absolutely essential to buy out runs to be able to run with our preferred group at times that fit in our schedule. I run with Team Synergy and also with a group of my Son's friends. This year, in spite of a decent queue number I couldn't get runs to meet these objectives. I'll only be on one of the two TS runs and I won't be able to run with my sons group.

I got in two other group runs and one PUG to get desired mix of 4 runs. So without some of these group buy outs, I would have been out of luck this year.

Is this your last TD because of snatching, cornering, and over-purchasing or because you won't be going to Gen Con anymore?

Your post from 2 weeks and 3 days ago :

patrick dodge wrote: During the sellout craziness, I was able to grab a ticket for all my friends except me! Hoping someone, somewhere has a spare ticket for:

Behold Her Majesty, Puzzle
Friday 6:15PM

We currently have 3 tix (I'm hoping to be the fourth). Another option would be to trade our 3 tix for 4 in another timeslot. Obviously, whatever the arrangement, I'll pay for the 4th ticket.

Please help. Don't want to miss out on our last True Dungeoun at our last GenCon.

Patrick, I understand your frustration about getting tickets. The experienced group I play with only got only 2 of the 4 wanted runs this year. But at least that will be 2 runs this year which aren't total PUGs. Last year that group (except me) all had to cancel at the last moment and I was stuck trying to get rid of all of their tickets (at face value or less, of course). I was able to talk one friend and his son to play in one of the runs. I talked the wife and 2 sons of another friend (the one who took a lay-off and decided not to go this year) into playing in another run. I remember I let the wife play my decked-out barbarian. She ended-up being a grand-master at sliding and almost always put the puck on the 20. The other players often refused to slide because they were afraid they would knock her off the 20. They had such a great time that the friend bought me a nice dinner and he decided to try TD this year -- along with one of his wife's friends. That is why I bought out an entire run. Things often don't work out the way we want them.
