TOPIC: Older tokens that we SHOULDN'T mulch?

Older tokens that we SHOULDN'T mulch? 1 month 3 weeks ago #1

Somewhere between when we started playing and now we sorta, kinda, maaaaybe just kept putting off transmuting our tokens lol. Which is great now because there are a lot of things we want to actually transmute up to, but significantly less great in terms of trying to organize everything.

We started playing in 2013 and played consistently pretty much up to 2024-ish when we had to take a break, and before we send things off we wanted to make sure that we weren't sending any significantly rare tokens that people may be looking for as collection completion sort of things. Is there like a community "do not mulch!" list that exists or a general consensus of the older stuff that shouldn't be sent?

(Also, um... if anyone has some suggestions on the best way to transmute like... a few thousand tokens that would be great XD )

As someone who not too long ago sent in approximately 7k ish tokens, definitely want to fill up 6 small flat rate boxes, and then put those into a medium flat rate box, then make sure you tape up all the seams and corners extremely well.

As for the tokens, if you think something is worth holding on to, check Trent's and see what it is worth.

I've always thought you shouldn't mulch wooden tokens anymore (which you shouldn't have any since you mentioned 2013 and more recent), but given how few people collect wooden tokens, I am considering mulching some of my uncommon wooden armor and weapon tokens.

I agree with the previous poster, you can check prices on Trent Tokens to see which ones are worth more keeping rather than mulching.

For lots of Tokens do not mail them. Just wait until RingCon or GHC and bring them with you in 5 gallon buckets. Have buckets separated by rarity and TG type. A 5 gallon bucket full of Tokens weighs 67lbs. I hope to bring at least 10 buckets with me to RingCon.

True Dungeon will transmute tokens just by weight in a bucket? I didn't realize that. And I probably have never had that many tokens of one type to transmute anyway. :)

I'm not sure if they would, I actually count all of my Tokens out as I add them to each bucket. Just wanted to mention the weight because the buckets get quite heavy.

I would keep any rares or uncommons that are parts of Legendary recipes and put them on Trent. Starting in 2012 (because you never know), this appears to be:
Earcuff of Salvation
Bracers of Fire (Has a recent reprint)
Ioun Stone Topaz Sphere
Cloak of the Wind
Ring of Fortitude
Ring of Iron Will (Valuable regardless)
Ring of Reflexes
Venom Runestone
+1 Arrow of True Flight
Arrow of True Flight
Charm of Enlightenment (valuable regardless)
Potion Hallowed Oasis Water
Scroll Venom Strike
Minor Rings of Fortitude, Reflexes and Will
Ring of Protection +1
Belt of Ogre Power (has a recent reprint)
Bracers of Frost
Drow Raider Necklace
Boots of Agility
Potion Polymorph (Brownie)
Scroll Cure Moderate Wounds
Ioun Stone Beryl Prism (has a recent reprint)
Ring of the Anointed
Wand of Thor's Fury

People also seem to want wands, though I may have misunderstood that, since no one is willing to make trades for the ones I'm advertising. ;-)

Wands are out of print and I am looking for more so I would definitely prefer to trade you for any rather than you mulch them.

In terms of tokens 2012-2024, beyond the ones for transmutes, I'd recommend handling the following separately:
All polymorph potions - these are out of print and look like they won't be coming back. That means all players using wizards that polymorph will need them and there will be, progressively, less and less available.
Most wands - same as above - out of print.
Many completion tokens (go to tokendb.com and sort by completion for a full list). The following are among the more valuable of these: Soul Coffer, Horn of Blasting, Brawler's horn, Censer of Sacrifice, Amulet of Plane Shifting, Mirrored Archer's Buckler, Lamp of the Efreet, Lamp of the Marid, Belt of the Brave, Figurine Chipped Bull
Set pieces: Defender, darkthorn, footman, charms of transmorph
There are some consumables the are sought after as well:
Potions: leaping attack, dwarven doppleboch
Scrolls: gaze reflection, slow poison, bless

Also advice for mulching in volume: medium flat rate boxes tend to be the best value. You can do about 20 pounds of tokens per box before you run out of room. If you are doing more than 2 flat rate boxes, transmuting in person might make sense (then again - if you are flying, the bag fees might be more.)

Personally, I just group 25 of a given type of trade good together (25 rare dp, etc..) rather than just 25 pt individually. You can just line up stacks - make sure they are the same size then bag them. This definitely speeds up putting the transmutes together.

When I did a ton of transmutes all at once, I'd do 10 snack bags of 25 tokens grouped together in a gallon ziplock bag. Include notes for TD in each bag breaking down what is there.

I also recommend doing the more valuable transmutes first - 250 rare philosopher stone components is definitely worth transmuting whereas 250 common philosopher stone tokens components might be worth waiting until you have room left in a future transmute.

Thank you all for such amazing information (and for pointing out the legendary recipes! I hadn't even considered those) and also for some insight in to the best way to ship. Ideally we would love to transmute in person at either Ring Con or GHC but also we gotta get at least some of these out of here before then to get some floor space back lol

If you use medium flat rate boxes (which I also recommend) to ship the tokens , I'd advise putting the tokens in small flat rate boxes and then putting those in the medium box. That gives the box a lot more structure and makes it more likely that the box will arrive intact.
