TOPIC: Level Up? Gaming Geek Levels.

Level Up? Gaming Geek Levels. 12 years 1 week ago #1

I just had a thought cross my mind about what level of Gaming Geek a person is. Couple that with playing Guild Wars one and two and they have titles and achievements. That lead me to this post.

What would be the achievements that a person needs to reach the top level of Gaming Geek?

1st level
Title: Newbie Gamer
Experience Needed: Played an RPG, collectable card game or more than 10 board games.

I have many more ideas for levels but want to see what other people would come up with. Let's try and get 10 levels of gamer!

Not sure where these should fit into the level hierarchy but lets add

- Has an account on an online gaming form (boardgamegeek, here, any magic site, etc)
- Has attended a gaming convention
- Has attended a gaming convention in another country
- Has attended a gaming convention in costume
- Has (or would) spend more then $1000 board games, cards, rpg books, dice, tokens or gaming related accessories in the last year and not find that strange at all.
Semper Gumby, Always flexible.

I think the first one in this connected age would qualify for a level two requirement.

The second one would be for the Gamer title. Attending a convention would certainly be required to strip off any apprentice, novice or newbie preface.

Costume is a higher level than just Gamer and more than a grand on Gaming products would start to get the person near the top of the levels list one would think.

Maybe if we figure out what the tops level is we can extrapolate the others.

10th Level
Title: Gamer God
Requirements: (Must have all requirements listed unlike some other levels)
Attained all previous levels (no skipping!).
Spent more than one month gross income on one game in one year.
Attended three or more conventions in one year two being specific to gaming and one being in another country.
Been PAID to work at a gaming specific Convention.

I think those with all the other requirements could work. That is if we can come up with the other levels.

Going to change the 1st level to Newbie and the second level to Novice but I did come up with this list. Suggestions for changes to the titles are certainly welcome. I just came up with these on the fly.

1st Level: Newbie Gamer
2nd Level: Novice Gamer
3rd Level: Apprentice Gamer
4th Level: Journyman Gamer
5th Level: Gamer
6th Level: Gamer Nobal
7th Level: Gamer Elite
8th Level: Gamer Monarch
9th Level: Gamer Demigod
10th Level: Gamer God

Except attending a Con in a different country I've done every thing mentioned so far. Do other countries have Cons worth attending? I actually have no idea. I'd be up for a non-USA Con!

From what I've heard, Essen (Germany) makes GenCon look like a kindergarten carnival.

Well they claim attendance of 149k compared to Gen-cons 41k last year. It would be cool to see how they do it across the pond but without TD meh B)

Lol, true enough. Seems like a licensing opportunity.

I have a friend who attends every year. He buys so much stuff he rents a cargo container and fills it up with goodies.

What? No suggestions on what activities need to be done at a particular level? I know all of you that posted are very creative, I've read your posts ;)

maybe 10th level should have it turned around a bit. rather than demonstrating that you SPEND your money on gaming, Gamer Gods make a living through gaming (ie. your primary source of income is gaming related; game designer, producer, game programmer, etc). 9th level can include some of the minor options that start going that direction: make money/paid working at a con, have a published game...
