TOPIC: looking for a charity to Donate too

Hello fellow forumites, I have a request I wanted to post here because of the generous nature of the group and the track record for donating to worthy causes.

The company I work for has a very good program for donations to non profits. They will match any amount I donate. Additionally, they are offering a little bonus amount this year. The problem is they will literally match donations to almost any charity. So, I am having a hard time picking one. That is why I thought with your help I could come up with a choice.

I have a few criteria:
The charity needs to use most of its money on doing charity, not on management or advertising.
I would prefer a charity that helps kids.
I would like to do one larger donation over many small ones

With those few criteria, any ideas?

One organization that I've helped support is the Courage Lion program ( www.couragelion.org/ ). It definitely meets the second criterion, and I believe it meets the first one as well, but don't have a way to verify it. I've met the charity's president, John Ramming, and he has a genuine passion for helping ill, abused, and traumatized children.

I'll be running another Team in Training event zoo, and TnT loves matching donations. Team in Training raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which fights blood cancers and supports those with these diseases.

Kithren also raises money to fight cancer - she does it for the American Cancer Society.

both are good causes.

My family and I frequently volunteer at Second Harvest Heartland. I would definitely consider them a worthy cause, and they offer good bang for your donation buck. And they do a lot for hungry kids.
