TOPIC: HP Tracking App

HP Tracking App 9 years 3 months ago #1

I wanted to do some work with the Apple Watch, and created a simple app for tracking hit points (or life points as some term it). The app is called Tull's Life Count. It tracks hit points on an iPhone or Apple Watch. I have attached a screen shot from the watch and the link to the app. The phone app also does dice rolling. I spent a couple days working the random number generator to make sure each roll is independent and uniformly distributed across all the numbers of the die. Poor random number generation is a pet peeve I have with many games. Take a look. Price is 99 cents to help recover development cost.

I want to especially thank Eric Lindgren for the Fairy Dragon artwork. He does awesome artwork!

Thanks

You didn't ask for feedback, so spoilering this in case it's not wanted.

Excellent feedback, which is always welcome.

Max HP setting was discussed. In some ways it seemed redundant to set the max and then set the actual HP the same way, but I agree this should be an add. It is not difficult to do. I will add a Setup screen to set the max HP and provide a button for Set to Full.

I would welcome additional feedback on the font. This seemed like a nice style, but maybe too much.

98 was a programming thing. I set the total to 99, but it starts at 0, so the top is 98. I was thinking after I submitted it, that it may need to go higher for some D&D campaigns. That limit will change anyway, when the Max HP setup is in place.

Changing the button name from Done to HP is easy. It should be Hit Points, but I will have to check to see if it fits.

Adding percentile dice is a good idea.

Thank you for taking the time. Feedback is the best way to make it better.

Not sure when the next version will come out. Depends on when more people try out the Character Generator. I would like to get another rev of that out before Whosyercon, but so far I have seen limited commenting on it.

This sounds cool, I'd try it if I had an Apple Watch.

Regarding the max HP, even in TD it's possible to exceed 100 HP now, if you stack HP and CON items.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

Interesting idea! How do you think the readability will be in the dark dungeon?

It is an LCD screen so it is nicely visible in the dark. How much depends on how you have the brightness set. Mine looks good in total darkness.

The watch aspect is nice, but you can run it just from a phone. Same functionality, just a bit bulkier.

I don't/won't have an Apple Watch, but just going by the screenshot above, I would reconsider having numbers be superimposed upon a graphic. It makes reading them rather difficult.

Side Question: Who/what is Tull?

 Tull is the Fairy Dragon. I started using a Fairy Dragon in dungeons many years ago, and he is my alter ego in the dungeon. The Fairy Dragon got the name from my first high level character, a 13th level druid, from 1st Ed, who had a Fairy Dragon as a companion. After that, the Fairy Dragon ended up in dungeons so I could have some fun with the players.

Hi All.

The update to the Hit Point app has made it through approvals. Lots of updates.

1. Add a screen to add and modify characters for base hit points
2. Max hit points has been raised to 200.
3. Main screen has a reset button to the character base hit points
4. Add percentile dice option
5. The user may save 4 dice setups per character

There are other minor changes for visibility.

The last change, is that the app is now free to download.

Enjoy!

Tom
