TOPIC: Passing of Cosmo Joe

Passing of Cosmo Joe 3 days 4 hours ago #1

While I don't think it is my responsibility, but seeing no other posts, I thought I should mention the passing of Andy Watkins, AKA "Cosmo Joe". He was struck by an eBike on 7/4/25 and he succumbed to his wounds 10 days later.

I don't know if he ever played TD, but he was a great game designer and ran RPEX. AKA "False Dungeon". I was told Jeff and Andy were friends and Jeff supported his efforts. But I don't know if that is a fact. In my mind, RPEX was 3rd edition D&D to TD's 1st or 2nd edition D&D. Hopefully his friends will keep RPEX alive and growing. I first played RPEX at GHC in 2019. Matt H. and I came out of TD then and there was RPEX where we came out of epilog...

I think the majority of RPEX players also play TD and supported both. I hope that continues through these hard times.

My condolences to his family and friends. I am told there will be "a memorial service August Monday 11th at 11:00 AM at 803 E College Ave, Appleton, WI 54911 for Andy Cosmo Joe Watkins ."

It also hurts me because I posted this as "Off Topic" when it really isn't.

Andy was also an artist and did the artwork for some of the pins that make up the RPEX gear system.

What a tragedy - I had a few interactions with Andy and he treated me well each time.

At this time, my understanding it that the staff are going to keep RPEX going.

This tragedy seems particularly to surreal to me. I was just with Andy for an RPEX epic weekend at his studio 6d6 up in Menasha a couple weeks before it happened, and he was so full of life and excited about the many things he had planned.

It's a real lesson to make every day count.

Joe was a really nice guy and always took care of everyone who played RPEX. Full of energy and enthusiasm for the game. Truly a loss.

He was so full of energy. His passion for gaming and the excitement he brought to games will be missed.
