Woot. I'm first on the avatar list.

Figures they would have taken a mirror capture of the site. I snapped a few screenshots but that dosen't seem to be necessary now.

Also, btw, the avatar size limits have changed. After you save the file, edit the file in MS paint or something. Everyone should have access to that on a windows machine. Go to Image => Stretch/Skew => Turn horizantal and verticle to 80% ==> Save image

That should turn your 75x75 pixel avatar to 60x60.

Hacking bites. What'd we do to deserve it?

it's truely a shame that we can't find the hackers and pull a frankenstein on them.

Actually if you follow links to their site (RNSGroup) they have the gaul of advertising internet security services. They do have a forum, hmmmm.

No slight intended Doug, but one thing I do not like about this BB SW is the delay in updating the threads you have read. That and not seeming to have PM capability.

Please don't take it that I am belittling you hard work Doug, but if there are alternatives that would get us closer to what we had they would be preferable.

I'm not in love with it either but it was 1 of 2 systems that would import all the existing messages, forums and usernames. The other system is _very_ new and their conversion system is even newer ( www.mybboard.com/ )

I'll talk to Jeff about the software that Tom talked about -- its $185 bucks and still doesn't have all of phpBB's features. We can't go back to phpBB because of the security problems so like love and politics you're stuck with whats left.

My wife doesn't read this board right???

To be the type of person that would inflict pain and discomfort on others means that they must live a pretty sad existence.

The internet is like a giant video game for these Hackers and they get "points" for defacing websites. They even have a "High Score list".

The separation that these people have with reality is honestly a little disturbing. I wish there was some way to track them down and prosecute.

I understand, I tended to rely on the new posts indicators to help me wade through the posts, the old software updated immediately, this software doesn't seem to, I can not figure out how it works, refreshing and even closing the link and browsing out to it again doesn't seem to refresh the new post icons.

I will learn to cope.

Doug,
I checked out the myboard web site, it looks as though they just made a security update the day before the TD site was trashed. I have a feeling that all of these packages have security limitations to some extent, the best you can do is what you have been, with off site backups. I like the look and feel of the myboard forum, but it is up to you guys what you do.

As far as conversion goes, it might not be a bad time to prune things out anyway (maybe move over only the top most recent posts, or move all and delete most of them, or none). Have the old site available (as Tom did) for a little while and just start over with copying the user accounts, or even reset those too, as many that have been created have not ever posted. I realize there would be a fair amount of PM posts lost, but right now we do not have them anyway.

Just some thoughts,

Dave

BTW: What version of phpBB were we running. There was a securtity update in October and again in January?

Doug,

Have you looked at Simple Machines Forum www.simplemachines.org/ ?

I don't know if you can import all the saved data, but it seems to have the functionality of the phpBB boards.
