TOPIC: How'd they do that?

How'd they do that? 19 years 3 months ago #25

Hey, what happened to "how did they do that"???

I think we went off on a snipe hunt on this discussion forum - and now I am not seeing anything cool about how the magic mouth moved or how the spiders web was built...

Let's get back on this topic...please. Was it Niles that was spilling the beans with the design and behind the sceens scoop?

Gary

p.s. I just finished a puzzle which I hope Jeff will consider for any upcoming TD event...any TD staff that are curious I can send you a few pictures of the construction process.

p.s.s. JENN still standing by on marching orders for the ANVIL project...

Yeah, I didn't want to be the squeaky wheel but I've been waiting too. I've just been assuming the final designing on the next dungeon is holding the article.
Thanks.

Lance has been busy. So I'll start with some of the projects I did. The Spider Web being one that was recently mentioned.

The Spider Web was actually a bed mosquito net purchased at American Science and Suplus. I hung it from my attic access door and spread it out into my hall and livingroom. Thin layers of cheesecloth were stiched on and lengths of leftover yarn from another project were weaved in and out of the netting.

At Indy we used a metal plant hanger (hooked into the top of a pipe) to hang the hoop top of the netting. At SoCal we removed the hoop and taped the top of the netting to the top edge of the coroplast walls. I can email people who are interested a picture of the web, hung at Indy.[/img]

The Magic Mouth I made.

Jeff handed me some foamy stuff - the kind you use to swim with - and some tongs, asking me to create the magic mouth. I thought to myself, <scratching head> that doesn't look a thing like a mouth. There's got to be a better way.

So.... It took me about two weeks to figure out the design. What gave me the inspiration was the old fashioned wooden toy snake. You know, the one that can move about?

Basically, the magic mouth consists of blocks of wood cut & sanded into a mouth shape. My husband helped with the joint design (sorry, I'm keeping that secret). I covered the front mouth part with canvas and stuffed it with batting, hand painted it, and attached some handles on the back.

The guys were calling me "Mistress of the Mouth" for weeks.

Lance, Jenn,

Is there anything we can help with in preparation for Indy 2005? I live in Indy and am glad to help in any manner. I had a great time as a bluehand last year.

There will be things coming up that we can definitely use help with. I'm betting Jeff and Dave also see this and contact you for the projects they have going on.

Anyone who is interested in helping before or during the event please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. He'll forward your info on to the different work parties.

Tavern build has begun. Coroplast has been ordered, chair cover fabric is covering my work room and there are pink foam books all over my dining room table.

Jenn put a ton of work into making all of those props... I'm glad you enjoyed the article. I still intend to add more articles as I get time.
