TOPIC: Different Names on the Forum? (PM vs Posting)

It's an added layer of security if the user and display names don't match. The key is that the user name has to stay secret so that someone hacking the account has to guess two things, not just one. So it was a good idea but implemented incorrectly. Too late now.

Necro'ing this as I still find it quite confusing and annoying at times.

Could we please get the PM functionality modified to use the same names that show on posts? If completely switching over is too problematic, could we at least get both names displayed on messages we receive?

I agree completely. This would be a great help.

go to my account (at top of page)
next to XP click edit button

then change them to the same name (user name and name)

then problem solved

Sure, if we can actually get everyone to go do that. And make sure every new user goes and does that.

Or "just" fix the software.
