FYI and Questions regarding web page: www.truedungeon.com/true/store.htm

Section: Dungeon Store | Treasure Tokens.
Third Paragraph: "Note, that there will be able opportunity to trade with other players in the tavern, and you can use your GP and Gem tokens to purchase equipment during your adventure."

1) Can you ellaborate upon using GP and Gems to purchase equipment during the adventure?
I haven't heard anything else about this...was this idea scrapped? If not, can you please share details?

Fourth Paragraph:
"Please ignore the information on the Token webpage. It could not be changed in time for this pre-order launch. For all the details, please click on the below link. It shows all the possible tokens as well.
truedungeon.com/email/02162007/" ;

2) I believe that text was due to having the 2006 tokens on the page instead of the 2007. Now that the 2007 tokens are up, the above text can probably be removed.

There are other updates to make, but I thought I'd mention these for now.

Section: Dungeon Store | Treasure Tokens.
Third Paragraph: "Note, that there will be able opportunity to trade with other players in the tavern, and you can use your GP and Gem tokens to purchase equipment during your adventure."

1) Can you elaborate upon using GP and Gems to purchase equipment during the adventure?
I haven't heard anything else about this...was this idea scrapped? If not, can you please share details?

Thanks for pointing this out. This, unfortunately, falls into the category of good ideas that we can't afford/recruit to staff.

Many people have desired an official in-game shop or store, like we had in 2005, to trade tokens with TD as part of the gaming experience. The arguments for and against are many.

Some arguments for an in-game shop include:
1. Allowing the players to turn a potentially bust "free token bag" into useful equipment should for instance, a wizard draw a bag with all armor and weapons.

2. Providing a stable draw or economy for token trading and collecting

Arguments against include:
1. TD wants to promote trading amongst the players.

2. TD trading fixes/messes with the token "economy"

3. If the parties work together, with everyone having a free bag of tokens, a party should have enough equipment to outfit itself.

The bottom line however is that keeping an in-game store open for the entire day requires finding an additional (trained and token knowledgeable) 1-4 volunteers to sit all day and staff it, which then adds to the overall expense of running the event. Jeff has stated that he also wants TD's involvement in tokens to be minimal, at best, and let the creative collectors and players evolve the world of tokens into their own constructed activity.

To minimize some of the other issues created by not having a TD shop:
1. We have added things that can be done with gold and other items (Combos and auctions)
2. We provide the player coaches (formally trainers) with some basic armor and weapon tokens and give them the license to help out/equip a party that may, because of the luck of randomness, not have adequate equipment.

We continually evaluate potential new "stuff to do" within the TD world, and always accept and encourage suggestions, but Jeff is pretty adamant about an "It's about the Dungeon" policy and anything extracurricular to the dungeon is weighed against that policy, cost, and staffing.

I know this is more than the "It was a great idea, but we decided not to do it" answer you were expecting, but I felt that decision needed some explanation, and as Jeff has pointed out in other threads, I am not an abridgment answer kinda person.

Dave
I liked the shops in '05 but good points Dave, thanks.

One possible option though is setting up a storefront where (large collection) players can sign up for times that they will set up shop.

I suggest this for two reasons. Sometimes, its a little impractical to wander through the trading area looking for people who are trading. In fact sometimes there isn't anyone trading so this sets up times when players will be trading.

And second, it creates a cool "D&D" feel of having a shop in town (with the ambiance to go with it) like we had in '05. Of course, you would need to make it perfectly clear that the person trading was in no way tied to True Dungeon, that they were just a player.

This also wouldn't cost any volunteers. =)

Anyway, just tossing out ideas. =)

We have discussed something similar, it will depend on the available space, but I will definitely keep it in mind.

Nothing is stopping anyone from setting up shop in the Tavern. It was cool seeing all the trading going on in there last year. Feel free to set up a little bazzar there.

However, in keeping with the "It's the Dungeon, Stupid" theme of this year, I don't want to distract players with merchants in the Marshalling Area. Unless the group gets unlucky, 7 token bags should do them good enough. In that case, I think the Coaches will have some Chainmail and Long Swords tucked away in their pocket that they can do an inpromptu trade with a group they see has sucky stuff for the fighter types.

Oh yes - no store in the Coaching areas...we have enough distractions!

But in the Tavern proper - it would be cool for a market area to exist...

I don't think TD should give any sort of tacit stamp of approval to private traders, even so far as to have a signup sheet or list. I saw too many people offering crappy value deals to feel comfortable with that sort of thing. It's one thing when it's TD run, their goal is generally customer satisfaction and balance. A private trader's goals are a bit different.

having more than just one "storefront" going at a time would offer the "customer" options and foster competetion.
