TOPIC: Token Price Guide

Re: Token Price Guide 14 years 6 months ago #13

I'm amazed that you're able to work 3 jobs. That seems overwhelming to me.

Kim
No new price guide planned. Between my 3 jobs, I just don't have the time.

I kept track of the tokens that sold on eBay for over a year, ending sometime at the end of last year. Everytime a token would sell I would add it in and average it with the others of the same kind that sold. For instance, if a +1 Arrow sold for .50, then the next one sold for $1.50, the average would be $1.00, and that is what I marked down for the value. There was a great range of value on some items, but in the end, if 10 of them sold the average would stable it out. With keeping track of the gold sales, I was also able to determine how much gold an item was worth. I would be hesitant to put it out here since I am sure people would argue with it (even though these are ACTUAL values). I hadn't looked back at the prices until last night. The only completed item I saw was the Scroll of Chain Lightning, which went for over 2x the average of the eight I had previously documented.

Very overwhelming. In addition to my day job, I started teaching at Santa Monica College and I am writing a sci-fi novel. The kids take up all the rest of my time. =)

The problem that I think you might run in to is this: are you seeing two values or a price trend? Overtime, prices change, especially when a new print run is announced and released. You also have the dilema of weighing in shipping costs. And factoring trades into the mix can be problematic.

Don't get me wrong, tracking eBay prices is a great place to start but the high degree of variability can throw your numbers off. Best of luck to you!

How many classes do you teach? Also, how's the novel coming along?

Kim

Only Astronomy right now. But its a lot of fun actually! So I might not even consider it a job really but it does take a lot of time to prepare the lectures, labs, exams, grading, etc.

Novel is coming along well! Thanks! I have the treatment done, finished the prologue, have my characters, and all the science worked out. Now I just need to start typing!

So now you know where I've been all these months. ;)

I don't think I've heard people argue with the price guide before. I think a lot of people would appreciate seeing the information you've accumulated. Everyone realizes that the real worth of something is how much money someone will give you for it!

I used to live in West LA but recently moved to the South Bay. I'd love to meet up with my fellow So Cal True Dungeoneers!
Have you looked it up in the TDb?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .
When I started talking about posting the results of my year long study of ebay token sales I was told by several people that those who have previously kept track of token values have received complaints from token sellers that believed the quoted values were too low; thus cutting into their bottom line.
My postings showed only the actual sale prices, not a judgement of the token's worth. Apparently an average value, without the figures they were derived from as back-up, leaves room for argument, at least in some people's minds. I have not received any complaints on my postings.

Say Don, I was wondering how similar your averages are to those that could be derived from my study. If you haven't seen it you can see it here:
sites.google.com/site/moldasmysticalmerchantile/in-the-news
Please excuse the mess it is in, I have been too busy with Token Wallets and family to straighten out all of it.
