TOPIC: Surely a very newbie question...

Surely a very newbie question... 14 years 3 weeks ago #1

So I played in the intro dungeon last year at GenCon and had a blast...but we didn't use any of our own tokens, so there is a point I need to clarify for myself before I go buying tokens to use for the three I'm plying in this year. Sorry if this is a stupid question...I just can't seem to find the answer!

For those tokens that are "one use", or if a token gets "broken" during a combat...do those tokens get taken by the DM and never given back to you? Or do they just get taken for the length of the dungeon and then given back to you at the end?

And I guess, while I am at it...is there a limit to the number of tokens total or of the same items you can take with you into the dungeon?

Thanks for any help...I'm very much looking forward to GC this year!

One use tokens are handed to the DM, who in turn returns them to the TD bigwigs. As for as I know, the same happens for any armor or weapons that breaks (although I've never actually seen this happen).

There really is no limit to what tokens you bring with you, other than the size of your pockets, but keep in mind some tokens can only be used once per room or dungeon, no matter how many copies of them you bring.

Jeff & Dave have said that if there is something that "breaks" or "inactivates" a permanent item, you can't use it for the rest of the adventure, but they aren't going to confiscate it from you. In all the years of TD I don't think that a permanent item has ever been taken from a player, unless it was a situation like one where the player was told "if you toss this item on the floor you will lose it", so that the players know to toss their most worthless items. That has happened a few times - once you tossed tokens on the floor to get out of a sticky spider-web, another you tossed them at a container, and if you got the token in the container you'd get a better token as a reward.
I think 2 years ago you could bribe the ogre...you lost whatever item you tried to bribe him with then.

And one time (at band camp) you could spike a moving wall to slow it down...you burned the hammer and spike token doing so.

Wooden poles have also been "consumed" by using them to prop things open, or make them into a torch or some such...

OK, this is pretty much along the lines of what I thought it meant...thanks all.

One other question....the gold, platinum, etc. --- what can you actually purchase/get with those?
gold is used to make combo tokens or to buy items at the TD auction. You can also trade gold for items here. Some collectors are looking for gold for big items at the auction
Normally it is held on Sunday, but the details will be announced well before gencon.

Gold can also be used to bribe some monsters in the dungeon, or so I've been told. I've never heard of it happening though.
