Hey Gary,

I thought George burned one to refill his hp during the Patsy run with us at Indy.

For me, my top 3 tokens in power would be
1) Elixir - not all puzzles are combat related and some can be deadly
2) Cloak of Displacement - easily the most powerful combat item
3) Gloves of dexterity
I know that everyone thinks the girdle is more important than the gloves, but I think that most of the time a monster hitting a character is more dangerous than hitting the monster one more time from a single character.

I thought so too, in fact I typed that story down...but then could not remember who it was - OK - that was the only time...and it was precautionary.

OH - and make that 5 runs - only one elixer burned for like 37 people...of which all survived!!!! *Knocks on wood for luck to continue*

You're right all puzzles are not combat - but if they are not - then they do things like Reflex save - good for RoE or they outright kill the party or person - no save with Elixer.

So the gloves add +1 to AC...well that makes them the same as a +1 ring or +1 plate in my book - very good item but not as good as +1 to hit and +1 damage...and on the barbarian its +2 +2!

As DM in room B6 (Room of Archways/Hexagon), I collected well over a dozen used Elixer's of Life, perhaps more, in my 2 dayshifts. Of those, I think only 2 were used on people still alive, the others were all to restore fallen comrades. Most of these were used upon entering the room, due to damage in the Chessboard Room, but a couple were also from my snake statue monster. At any rate, the 12 ounce plastic cup outside my room, used to hold expended tokens until collected by death, was usually overflowing with heals and elixers. ::Grins::

Your own mad-skills perhaps transcended their use, but the less well equipped parties, or those less used to the puzzles in TD, were quite in need of the Elixer.

According to the new token guide, the CoD isn't quite as overpowering as it once was thought to be. It applies only to the first monster swing in a given combat, hit or miss, rather than to every swing. Still great, but not overpowering.

That aside, do you still have the RoE up for trade? My latest token order was shipped today, and if it contains certain items I feel the need for, I may have a mysteriously available set of Gloves of Dexterity here. You can't have my girdle though, that thing stays with me forever! Well, you've probably already got one anyway :-D

So they tuned down the CoD...that figures!

The gloves would be sweet! Let's talk when you are ready.

Well that's a bummer. I was rather hoping they would tone down the percentage for new tokens, and not nerf the ones that people already traded for.

While I realize it's a bit of a bummer for folks already in possession of them - especially those who traded for one - I do think it is good for TD that they did that. It was truly an overpowering and unbalancing item before, and this keeps it from making things too much a walk in the park for the fortunate few.

Gary - I'll definitely contact you as soon as I receive my order, to let you know how things stand :-)

You mean first swing of the combat, or first swing at the person wearing it? If it is first swing total, then it is going to be practically worthless. There are 7 targets, after all.

I'm sure it is first swing at the player wearing the Cloak. But with this change in the function of the Cloak, hrm... I'd move it down a couple of notches on my list... While I think this new mechanic is more "sane", I feel bad for people that traded a lot for them.

My new list would be (slightly modified)

1) Ring of Evasion/Regeneration (tied for first)
3) Elixir of Life
4) Cloak of Displacement
5) Gauntlets of Dex

I'd love to get a Ring of Regeneration! ;) Anyone want to trade?

So what properties did the cloak of displacement use to have?
Out of curiosity sake.

In tabletop games Evasion is almost always used for saves vs. area spells (such as fireball) that would normally do half damage if you saved.

Since the Ring of Evasion will only function with very specific conditions, I would not rank it so high. Suppose the situation occurs once in the dungeon (say a fireball that would do 6 points of damage - which would be a lot). So *if* you make a save, the ring would save you 3 points of damage. Not a lot. And I can't see an area-affect damage spell doing much more than 6 points, or you could wind up offing the entire party.

Has any situation like this ever even occured before in TD? I don't remember having to make a reflex save for half damage.

The CoD allowed a 50% miss chance for every hit on you. Mine even worked for an arrow trap in a hallway during SoCal. This item is known as a Major Cloak of Displacement in d20 rules. The Minor Cloak only has a 20% miss chance.

Now I am slightly confused by your comment just before. So does miss mean no damage or half damage?
