I was just reading the Beta list, and noticed they might be bringing back the Special UR. As I just started True Dungeon in 2011, I was wondering what kind of effects happened in prior years from Special tokens.

I can't speak to any other years, but last year two people that I'm aware of turned in UR Special tokens. They got to use extra large weapon sliders for 1 full adventure.

One year it was a chance to slide for Bracers of Defense +2.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are the effects I recall:

2007-Slide on a combat board. Success(18 or better I believe) = +2 Bracers of Defense, otherwise receive random UR from that year.

2008-Played as 4th level instead of 3rd level character.

2009-Dryad "accompanied" you on your adventure. You were able to use a special Dryad character card in addition to your normal character card to allow a second character for you to use in the dungeon.

2010-Gave your weapon the "Dragonbane" property. A slide of "20" instantly killed Smoak.

2011-Allowed you to use a special slider that was significantly larger than your standard slider during the adventure in which it was redeemed. The "Dozer" as it was affectionately named was returned at the end of the run.

That matches with what I recall as well. I can't remember anything about 2008. Also, I have a feeling that in 2010 there was a different effect for the non-combat dungeon.

IIRC, in 2008 (the year Amulet of Wonder first appeared) using your UR Special let you play a 4th level character (back when everyone else was 3rd).
It was the same effect as the AoW for that year, but left the neck slot free for something else ; )

So one more question, and this is probably a stupid one, but is the Special UR a one-use item (like the Gem of Healing UR) or is this a UR that can be redeemed each year for people who have it?

Not sure about that, usually Jeff has one effect, so it's kind of a take what you get scenario. :/

It may just be that no one turned in a Special for the Evading Hilt dungeon that year. I seriously doubt that Jeff would give someone the Dragonslaying ability when there was no dragon to fight. Remember, there were two different dice for the Amulet of Wonder that year. One for Evading Hilt and one for Smoak.
