TOPIC: trading multiple reds for purples and older tokens.

Re: trading multiple reds for purples and older tokens. 18 years 2 weeks ago #13
... How many bracers of defense or shortswords +1 does a person really need after all?

...With everyone getting a token pack this year, I'm not even sure newbies will want the things. Maybe some sort of grab-bag draw? Toss in some R and VR tokens and a buncha commons and have people randomly fish stuff for 5 GP a pull?

Soooo, you have an extra Bracers of D and Shortsword +1 do ya. Hmmmm... =)

Actually, your 5GP grab-bag isn't a bad idea. It could be sorta fun for ya. I can see you now at a table in the corner, "Step right up, everyone's a winner! You've a 1 in 3 chance for a rare, 1 in 5 chance for a VR! Step right up, only 5GP per pull!"

that would be me at GenCon, shouting from the corner... i was planning on doing something like this at Indy this year. although, 5GP is much too cheap to make it worthwhile.

there has to be a chance that you get less than you put in, so that when you get more, it is exciting. if the player always wins, its not fun.

plus, what kind of take can you expect if you are taking in gold as fast as you are giving it away?
Heck, I've got trade fodder coming out my ears for tokens it seems. The problem is, I'm nowhere near 'token affluent' enough to outbid a few others on purples and there's almost nothing I want anymore from the reds. I'm just missing a few of the new things and that's about it. If there is something you're looking for specifically, you can always drop me a PM.
I'm not thinking of this as a way to make money as more along the manner of recycling crap I've never going to have a use for anyway. So ya, the distribution would have to be skewed far rarer than what's been mentioned, but that's what keeps the price low too. Everyone can take a pull or two just from what they get in their starting bag if they want, and I have a good chance of getting rid of some gear and items which weren't doing me any good anyway. It might actually be worth coming out behind on priceguide because simply, you couldn't sell most common items right now for price guide anyway*. They're effectively worthless.

*: On the offchance I'm wrong...anyone want to buy short swords in bulk? :P. I'll cut you a 20% discount. Only _4_ GP per!

Hopefully I won't need a picture to know what the box looks like--it should be in front of my face! The sad thing is it probably arrived today but I couldn't get to the P.O. :|

I think it would be cool to post a pic of all those tokens piled in the middle of your floor, or spilling off the kitchen table. Methinks it would be something akin to that one True Dungeon room (2 yrs back, if you didn't dash through the rapidly closing door) where you discover what several thousand gold coins look like, spilling out of a large chest.

Just gotta remember to bring a bucket to catch the drool.
They had to send a whole truck just to carry all the tokens, eh? I'm surprised they didn't have to bring it to your house by backhoe.
