2 handed weapons have pretty much been obsolete in TD for some time. The question is how do we improve them?

My first suggestion is change the damage wheel. For example:

+2 Holy Greatsword has the following damage wheel:
3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12

Instead if it gets changed to:
3-12-4-11-5-8-6-9-10-7 it becomes a bit more likely for a higher number to face the damage dot.

My second suggestion is give them an additional ability. I mean an actual rule that helps offset the loss of the off hand slot. Something like
any critical hit with a 2-handed weapon does triple damage (or quadruple damage in the hands of a 5th level dwarf fighter)

Actually I think mixing up the damage wheel would make them *weaker*.

Right now, if the high numbers are grouped together, you can potentially manipulate your slider so that the high numbers are nearest the damage dot.

That is really a chance lucky shot if any. Then I would hope to bring my brightest light and microscope for DM to be precise after days of being tried from working. But a simple snack for DM to favor the party. By the way, Can we bring a cooler for next year in the dungeon, since there no bag check. Then I could say another round for party and the DM. LOL

This is true only if you slide last. Otherwise the potential for a player knocking your slider hurts your chances, as does under- or overshooting your target.

Just make the Damage wheels higher..it is very simple. I know it will make some of the older two handed weapons even worse, but right now they are not much better then one handed weapons.

I'm not sure that is the answer either. Too little damage and they still won't be used. Too much and they unbalance the game.

It would be nice to come up with a solution that doen't leave everyone who already has two-handers (especially UR two-handers) out in the cold.

The critical idea is cool, but I think what Eversuede is getting at is the difficulty of seeing the little hand icons in the dungeon. It's just one more thing for the DMs to look for and it will get missed or forgotten about.

The place to fix it would be the party card. You could just rule that all two-handed melee weapons get a +2 damage added on the party card. Heck you could even add an ability to the character cards of the main melee classes saying the same thing. I'm thinking Barbarian, Fighters, and Paladin here.

A more complex way of doing it would be to get 1.5x or 2x strength bonus to damage like in D&D. Again calculate it on the party card. This could become too outrageous though with the new relics and such though. Not to mention being more complex for the coach to calculate than a static bonus.

I don't think adding the extra damage is will unbalance the game, they need to do more damage, its as simple as that. And increasing the damage wheel is the easy way to do that.

And as someone who owns a UR two handed weapon, well our party has 2 of them, I am completely fine doing something that makes them obsolete as long as I gain something better. As the power level grows there will be times when old weapons need to be discarded for better ones.

How about we make future 2-handed weapons better?

And then we have a Relic 2-hander that will require ANY old 2-handed UR as its component? That way people can "upgrade" their older 2-handed UR's into something using the newer and better damage wheel?

Are 2-handed weapons really so underpowered? I know not too long ago there was a very vocal contingent on the forums that ran the math and said you were always better using a 2-handed weapon than a 1-handed weapon and a shield.

With the two rings from this year's tokens you can add 5 damage to any 2 handed weapon so I think they have to potential to hit pretty hard.

Just adding a few more tokens that help 2 handed weapons specifically would make them good choices. Ring of brilliance was a start. I proposed feat tokens in the other thread but something along those line that give +2 dmg or a per room bonus would make 2 handed weapons very sexy and not require obsoleting old tokens. In fact it would make the old urs more interesting as youwold have a bunch of different 2 handed effects to choose from.
