Welcome to the Token Tote help desk.

This thread is to provide even more tips and assistance in getting the most out of your Totes...

Any construction issues or concerns please post here and please be kind - my mom and I made these in around 50 hours one weekend - our fingers still hurt.

OK some things I have heard and want to stress again...

First - DON'T let the neck string hit the hook side of velcro...I've never seen anything hug velcro hooks better than the shoe-lace string...These were actually bought online - they looked superior for the Token Totes as they were insert and had a T end (to hook in place) so they were quick to put on and are easy to replace and take off - if you wear your tote on a belt only. If you got a string that looks less like a shoe lace and more like shiney elven cord...that string was a replacement due to running out of "shoe strings" and an attempt to find something better that would not react as bad to velcro. However, that string did not have the T ends...long story short - I hope everyone appreciates that the string can be personalized or not used at all based on your desires...have fun - use military beaded chains, use more elastic for stretching to see tokens easier etc...

Second - the sticky velcro patch comes off...I tried to minimize all sticky back velcro usage...the stuff just takes time to HOLD...so if anyone is seeing the flap patch come off - I suggest you put it in place and set a book on top of it for a few weeks or more...the velcro glue does hold as I have noticed that older ones I have do work better with age - the more you open and close one in the early days - the more it will lose it's sticky ability.

Third - tokens slip out...The safest cells are the 12 in the top two rows...the bottom flap flips upside down when the Tote is closed...this allows gravity to weigh in...hehehe I suggest you don't staple your tokens in - try double sided tape either on the backs of the tokens or at the top of the cell near the opening so you effectiely close the cell like a zip-loc. You can also go the post-it route and attach a small piece of that paper to the backs of the tokens to cut down the slippery factor.

Fourth - the cells split or the thread pulls out...really two things here, first the cells split...plastic is plastic any of these things even the TD pages tend to pop or tear if fingers are jammed in - there is not much any of us can do about this - I have popped TD pages and I have popped the cells I used on the totes...just exercise as much caution as you can...and when they pop - try clear tape...I do. Second : the thread pulls out - some corners of the plastic cells have high stress points...the medium really is not made to be sewn on - but it is soooo cool for the token tote...I just could not find anything better to replace it with. So should thread start to pull out - I suggest glue of some sort that will not EAT the material...I am pretty sue crazy glue type glues would eat the material...I can experiment and report back if someone wants to know...perhaps white glue would work - or my favorite - double sided tape...that would be the most likely fix, and it looks the best I think.

OK that is the first installment for Token Tote help desk...again please post your comments and concerns and I will do my best to address them.

BIG thanks to Jeff who wanted these geeky things as part of the token packages...and thanks to everyone that told him they were so cool!
I'm loving my Token Totes! Thanks for the hard work Gary (and Gary's mom).

I'm thinking I'll pre-pack each one with the necessaries for a given class I hope to play, leaving only a couple slots open for the items I only have one of and will want for both sides.

Double sided tape is a Good Thing (tm)

Thanks again!

What'd I'd been considering doing was actually modifying my costume pieces so I could attach tokens directly to them... Rings with ring tokens, gloves with Gauntlet tokens, Cloak fastened with cloak token, etc, but the Token Totes are just much more practical. :-)

One thing I think would make it better is to use the actual token sheets instead of 35mm slide holders.

Last year, I decided to cheap out and use slide holders instead of buying a binder. Right before the first run, I unzipped my carrier and every single token had come out of its sleeve. Yikes! I bought a set of token pages and haven't had the problem since.

I love the design of the holder you came up with, but I'm really afraid of losing tokens, especially since my normal gear is all Rare or Very Rare. I like your idea of making the tokens "sticky" and was going to try hitting each with my 3M Post-It glue stick. I also might try to add a flap or piece of tape over the top of the slots for tokens that don't need to be removed during play (armor, rings, etc.)

One other thing I was wishing for was a pocket or two on the outside to keep frequently used items handy (like weapons and/or healing items), but I realized you could take one or both of the side flaps and leave them open which would accomplish the same thing but still let you store them "closed" if you wanted to.

I'm also going to replace the neck string. You're right - velcro just loves that thing... :)

These are just really minor nitpicks, though - the holder is a wonderful bonus that I will use for TD from here on out. THANK YOU so much for this great addition to the GT package!

I was very worried about tokens coming out of the binder but I figured out an easy way to make sure they don't. Simply don't use the top row of each binder page. It's pretty much farging impossible for the tokens from the other rows to slide out. There's just too much pressure holding them in, enough so I have to touch with a pair of pliers to get them out. The ones on the top however could theoretically slide out if the plastic got loose enough from use or the binder was jarred violently enough.
