TOPIC: Distribution of wealth

Re: Distribution of wealth 18 years 4 weeks ago #13

You know much of this boils down to quantities.

Hiding tokens in the tavern, or dropping a token or two in the dungeon, seems to me as harmless. Giving a new player a great deal in trade for a rare or very rare token, is also perfectly acceptable. If someone walked in with a bag they had purchased and you offered to trade them a guaranteed “starter set” for the green or red in their bag, no problem. You all have paid good money for the tokens you have, and are free to do with them what you want. Giving a way a “starter set” to a brand new player (or the good looking one), again is probably not a big deal and to some extent a cool gesture of generosity.

I remembered several of you setting yourselves up as lord “financiers” for brand new parties, and I thought what a cool way to add to the game.

Please know I am working with Jeff to set up a “circular economy” for the tokens so there are things you can use that stack of 20 short swords for. It will take a while to get things up and rolling, Jeff wants to take it slow, and I am cool with that. I am hopeful you guys are patient with us and trust that we won’t turn our backs on the fans of TD.

I guess most of what has been discussed, doesn’t bother me. I can’t speak for Jeff unfortunately, but I figure he is fairly reasonable. There is a part of me that feels that in moderation these things will have little negative impact on the game, and can have a fairly significant positive impact. Having said that, taken to extremes, anything can have negative unintended consequences, fun in moderation = good thing, fun at the expense of the game or it’s somewhat unplanned livelihood, probably not good for any of us.

Specifically, any activity that exchanges real money for tokens is only authorized outside of the dealers room for TD. All other exchanges violate Gen Con’s policy. A game that takes money for a random draw would essentially be the same thing, however, if you were asking for two browns for a random draw out of a sack of greens “as a trader”, it fits the game and should not be a big deal (Jeff’s Veto being the final say).

So deals, exchanges, trades set up between two people negotiating in the tavern, all good.
Planting a flashing neon sign and setting up a money exchange business, bad.

Did I just manage to say yes and no in 430+ words? :O Sorry….

Dave
You should know better than to pick up a duck in a dungeon....
