Okay ... I'm curious as to how those who love to buy Treasure Tokens justify the expense?

For me, I travel for work and I get $40 per diem for meals which I don't completely spend ... so in my mind, I'm not spending my money on the tokens, my company is buying them for me!

I hope, that by buying what I do, I show direct support for TD and Jeff's dream.

That's also the reason why I volunteer full time...

Aww ... that's sweet! As for me, I also got sold by the combo token idea ... I had been debating about whether or not to buy some more tokens ... but then I saw the combos and I was hooked ...

how do you justify spending your meal ticket on tokens??? i know that sounded harsh. that was not my intent. i purchase tokens, a lot of tokens, to show support for something i think is great. its like going to a ball game or concert. the only justification you need is, "it's what i want to do."

I guess I also enjoy collecting - I tried not to get hooked, but I did. In so doing I just gave up totally on card games...this is more fun - and like some players, I think that the tokens can have other uses too...

Needless to say they have sparked my creative side...just look at the Token Tote for example...

I go to GenCon to play True Dungeon.

Plane Ticket (from Canada): $500+
Hotel x5 days: $1250+
Meals: $Uggg.
True Dungeon Tickets (full slot of 7): about $200

Basically, I'm already spending 2 Grand on TD. What's another $250 of tokens?
That's my justification. ;)

Raven,

Its the hotel costs that are killing you. You just need to learn how not to sleep! And not eating helps too. ;) See, that frees up more money for tokens.
Ummm....how in the world are you paying so much for some of those things on the list? Even if you were listing it in terms of the northern peso it wouldn't be right. $250 a night on hotel? Did you miss out on the gencon housing block? $500 for airfare? Cripes. Where in canada are you? I know someone who just flew from the US to china for like 600.

My Sig.Other & I decided to get a nice Hotel this year, at Embassy Suites. Yeah, we missed the GenCon housing block on that. It's a bit expensive, but meh - for the small amount of sleep I get at the con, I want a good quality place to rest. I know I could get cheaper, but I don't wanna sleep in the Anime Room overnight (not that I haven't in the past).

Flying from Northern Canada in peak season is expensive. Also there's absolutely nothing direct. It's 2 - 3 flights, minimum. That costs.

Erf, that hurts. The housing block had the rooms for $150, but you had to be speedy about it. Still, it was worth going through the uncertainty and bitching for $100 dollars off the price per night. Split 3 ways, it's downright affordable.

As for the flight, maybe you should have looked into sled dogs for part of the trip :P.
