I think you just kill a small part of Gary, Jeff.
Its funny how something that takes multiple days to set up comes down in a few hours...

Ha Ha! I can totally see the fear in your eyes! Thanks for the chuckle, Gary, and I'm glad it wasn't a purple!

Lori

Gary,

Great topic - and one that is very near to my borderline OCD collector heart :-) (OK, many would argue that I'm well past the border)

I'd think the earlier sets (2004 in particular) would be worth more because far fewer tokens were made so sets would be much harder to make. Do any even exist? I know I'd bid on a 2004 set of tokens.

The value of a 2006 complete set partly depends on how many tokens change in the 2007 set. If a large number of the 2006 tokens go out of production (particularly "hot" tokens), the set value would increase. If any tokens became scarce because of being consumed (particularly wands and other tokens that are "marked off" as they are used), or disappear because of being traded in for cauldron tokens, that could have an impact.

Part of the calculation on how valuable complete sets would be is what happens to consumable tokens that are turned in during the dungeon, and gold, gems, and items that are traded in for cauldron tokens or auction items. If those tokens are destroyed or otherwise permanently removed from the token pool, then complete sets could be worth more because those tokens might be hard to find. If they are put back into circulation (via dungeon treasure or other means) that would make them less rare. I don't think there's ever been a statement of what will happen to the tokens that are turned in.

Of course demand would also play a role. I'm not sure how many people are interested in a complete set of tokens. Clearly a number of people on these forums would be, but how many casual players would be?

If token sets followed the model of Magic The Gathering sets, then the sets would be worth less than the total value of the tokens in the set. The early Magic sets are worth a bunch, but I don't think there is a Treasure Token equivalent to the Magic Power Nine - extremely powerful cards that were discontinued early and therefore are in short supply and VERY heavy demand - that would drive up the prices of older sets. Most Magic sets (post-1994) can be bought on Ebay often for less than a single Booster Box would cost, even though you would need many booster boxes of cards to complete a set.

What is the definition of a "complete" 2006 set? Does it include the Purples? Does it include the Cauldron Tokens? Does it include the Jewelry? The more inclusive it is, the more valuable it will be.

There is the risk factor as well - if True Dungeon were to ever end (perish the thought), the value of the treasure tokens would plummet.

Just some thoughts on the topic :-)

Thanks,
Mike

I have a seal, I paid $80 for it but I could let you have for $75.

If I can find the box in my basement where I put it.

Next to all the magic common cards I think.

25,000 magic common cards.

That my poor children will have to throw out after I am safely dead.
25,000 magic common cards.

You could build quite the tower with those, in Cardhalla!

George, I'm looking to SELL, not buy. :icon_tongue:

I was partly joking, about how Collectibles can be HOT one minute and lukewarm the next. But I do have a lot of beanies that I'm planning to sell. Although we are going to donate most of the low value ones to the local children's hospital.
