TOPIC: Encouraging Future Sales of Tokens Via Auctions

Re: Encouraging Future Sales of Tokens Via Auctions 17 years 11 months ago #25

tokens sales have basically 2 markets; indy and socal. even though a lot of people come from the west coast to do indy, most out there do not. by taking in commons and any other tokens one might donate, they can sell them later at socal since it is later in the year. they save money by being able to recycle tokens. and the money saved could be used to make some more props or other improvements; like the walls this year. you are right about the hassle of sorting though.

The sorting is only the start of the problems. Certain tokens are more likely to be turned in than others (common weapons/armor instead of scrolls for instance or gold/gems). TD would likely have to offset their printing, but it'll vary for each token. So if they did get back a huge number of tokens someone would have to count and sort, then the order for the next printing would have to be altered to adjust for the tokens they got back. Instead of just saying, give me 500 of each common, it would be crap like 452 of the handaxe, 387 of the short bow, 495 of the scroll of magic missile, etc.

Overall, it's just not worth their time.

I think part of the issue is the feeling that the token is more of a durable good than a common CCG card and therefore should be "saved". While I'd love to be able to turn them in for something (even akin to an arcade's "get a bunch of crappy little souvenirs in exchange for your tickets" counter), I do understand the overhead on TD's part that would be required to make it happen.
