TOPIC: Artisen Token - Non-Auction - Starting Price.

Re: Artisen Token - Non-Auction - Starting Price. 17 years 11 months ago #25

Okay, setting a price... let's look at the "knowns" (or at least decent guesses)...

- In the auction artisan tokens will go for 1000+GP.
- In the past, when people traded reds/greens for URs, you have generally seen
a 3-to-2 (minimum) ratio of the price guide value of the token(s).
- It is easier to come up with 1000GP in items, than 1000GP in gems/GP.
- Artisan tokens have no function.
- Artisan tokens are second in rarity only to RoR and RoTw. (if you count them
as a whole of 18, if looking at them as 2 each, there just as rare).
- There are quite a few Uber-traders that have easily 5+ of pretty much every
VR, and can part with non-consumable stuff while losing essentially nothing.

So let's start the price at 1000 (assumed auction price, though I think many will go higher). Mark it up for 3-to-2 ratio that past VR to UR trades have seen to 1500. Mark it up as well for the item availability vs. gold availability... say to 2000. The lack of function, and the rarity negate each other, and the last point adds a higher end, but may not effect the bottom expectation, so I think a new player coming out of the dungeon should expect to see a 2000-2500GP offer in items...

um...typical PURP trades are either a PURP for a PURP...or like we have seen in the past = 10-15 decent REDS for a PURP...

If the average value of a RED is what 300GP??? Then we are talking over 3000 gold for a PURP in items...
I was trying to set a minimum for a person's expectations, so I undervalued the ratio of reds to purps in those trades a bit...

If the intent is to give people and idea of what they can expect to "at least" get in trade I think the 2000-2500 range isn't unrealistic. That said, I believe somebody who's willing to look around, and take competing offers could get more in the range of 3000-4000GP worth of items...

George,

Actually, with 2 each, the Artisan Tokens are the rarest tokens. There are like 20(?) RoRs and at least 3 RoTW.

-D

That's what I said, so we agree on something!!! *writes this day down in journal* =D

Ah k. I read your post as never include them in the Price Guide.

I think any sort of valuation now is just a guess and honestly, when the auction does ultimately run, I think you are going to see some very odd results with some Tokens selling for 2000+ and other less desirables go for a surprising ~500gp or less. This will be due in large part to the "only GP/Gems" and "you can only bid on one" rules.

I was referring to the "people are interested in the sell at price" comment and we also agreed on "fluff."

As for the guide - they should show - as the guide has every token ever made listed...why not these??

What do you think about a ranged value?

after reading the poll and looking at the results, i can see some of the tokens going for less than 500 gp's. however, i can also see some going for around 3000+ gp's. people coming out of the dungeon will be able to get a LOT of items in trade for one, since that will allow collectors to save their gold for the auction. the "token affluent" are not going to miss a bunch of VR's or rares. we also have to consider that a few traders will be a socal for a second chance at items they may have missed. the tokens that go cheap might be sold right on the spot for more. after all, if a person gets something for like 200 gp's, unless they are a collector, it only makes sense to trade it for a lot more.

I seriously doubt any Artisan token will sell for less than 500GP at auction...I would be shocked to be wrong here.

It looks like the consensis is in the neighborhood of 1000 GP in value (perhaps a bit higher).

My goal for asking this question was to ensure when first artisen token leaves the dungeon, that we have enough understanding to make a "fair" offer to a player. Unlike with magic cards, none of the traders are trying to make a profit from the tokens (we are just trying to "improve our collections").

I hate seeing magic players getting ripped off by people who buy their cards cheap and then resell them at 400% or 500% profits.

This isn't necessarily true, although your suggested markup is way above mine...

Are you planning on selling tokens for cash?
