Ack! I'm packing to leave tomorrow and I'm finding I have questions about combo token ingredients becaue of the english used.
I grew up with an English professor as a parent, so I tend to find issues with other people's writings.

For the Jar of Courage, the ingredient list in the v5.3 docs is "Ingredients: Turquoise or Aquamarine (gem), Pearl (gem), and 20 GP worth of gold, or
Coral (gem), and 10 GP worth of gold."

Because of the comman that comes after "and 20 GP worth of gold," the ingredient list breaks down as follows:
Choice 01: Turquoise or Aquamarine (gem), Pearl (gem), and 20 GP worth of gold

OR

Choice 02: Coral (gem), and 10 GP worth of gold

Is this what was intended? For there to be two completely different options for ingredients?

Or was that comma NOT supposed to be there so that the ingredient list would read:
Turquoise or Aquamarine (gem), Pearl (gem), and 20 GP worth of gold or Coral (gem), and 10 GP worth of gold

Please advise so I know what to pack!

Thank you,

John
JKW
Good question, John, unfortunately, I can not answer your question. :| I agree that, as it is written, the description is ambiguous. I'd say that if you do not get a responce, to pack for both options. Most of us are on our way to Indy very soon and may not be able to answer your question until you get there.

I'd say that there should be some re-writting of that line. LOL!

I think the goal is two options which total 40GP...

So it would be:

Choice 01: Turquoise or Aquamarine (gem), Pearl (gem), and 20 GP worth of gold

OR

Choice 02: Coral (gem), and 10 GP worth of gold

Just my unofficial thoughts...

I agree, Gary. I totaled up the costs and discovered what you had, that each option came to 40 GP in value. So, the comma IS properly placed and remains. :)

JKW
I was an English major - then found out my NEMISIS professor was the only teacher that taught Shakespear - the last class for a BA. So I dropped that major and finished with a Psychology BS and a minor in English. I love Shakespear - don't get me wrong - but there are just some people you need to stay away from in life, and Dr. Murley was one for me.

G

I fully admit that I am Engineer, (thus had little to no liberal arts education in college), so I will never claim to have a mastery of the written American English language.

That said, the wording was intended to indicate there were multiple ways to create that token. I knew I wanted to keep the total cost of ingredients around 40Gp. I new I wanted to use a gem, preferably blue. I caught h*ll from the few token addicts to whom I sent my draft combo formula for review, because the single option I had selected was too rare to make the combo easily. This hopefully explains why you can use one of three different gems, (OK, Coral is not a gem, but...), and enough other stuff (GP) to satisfy the demands of the fey folk we have compounding for us.

Dave
