If only the top 5 bids are taken as "winners" then you could do this thing daily and have multiple chances for people to win.

so I take it you guys do a silent auction, rather than an active bid one. Depending on the items auctioned...it might raise the prices...

What do you think of having TD print up some more Gold tokens, and trading them to players for their stuff tokens? It would replenish TD's supply so they can pass the items back out next year, instead of reprinting them, and boost the Gold on the market for auctions and such. It also sets up a mechanic for easy trading in the tavern, for newer players to trade out stuff they don't want/need for more useful items.

Eh?!?

First of all, yes, it's cool that someone got an artisan token for 40gp. I just can't believe it happened. Proves you don't need to be Daddy Warbucks to win at the auction.

OK. White Elephant gift exchange gave me an idea for that grab bag. Lowest bidder picks first. Second lowest bidder can either take the open token a previous bidder, or grab from the bag. If Bidder 2 takes the token from a previous bidder, that bidder draws again. Increment and Repeat.

Bidder 1 (lowest bid) could still get a great token. Bidder 5 (highest bid) is less likely to get screwed, or feel like he got screwed. If the bid distribution is 500, 1000, 2000, 3500, 5000, it's only fair for the high bidder to have a "better" choice than the low bidder.
