If you liked the auction, I also am interested in the kinds of things you might like to bid on, vote here, and post any ideas below

Thanks in advance,
Dave
I don't have any specifics yet but there are plenty of one of a kind items in the D&D universe that people would love to brag that they owned. Throwing something in there that just might help defeat a certain spider cult and save the city of Greyhawk could be a motivator too!

Kim

Definitely think that unique (but not overly powerful) items other than artisan tokens would be cool as well...

The only thing I would change is that there was some confusion as to how things were being done (a friend had intended to post a bid, only to find it had closed), and (forgive me if this was there and I missed it) a posted set of "auction rules" next to the bids would be helpful in future years.

No Poll option for it really, but I'd like to see both the artisan tokens, and usuable stuff. I don't know about the set one though...that'd only be really great for a collector. What about autographed tokens? Or lead in tokens for next years adventure?

Since this was my first year, I didn't really have a chance to get any of the artisan tokens, but I did think they were really cool. I'd like to see them stay around.

The Artisan tokens were really cool, but usable stuff would be even better.

And, you know, a live auction is very exciting.
"I bid 10,000" "Do I hear 11,000?" *looks at Smak* "I bid 20,000!"
Might be nice to do a live auction on one of the nights. Maybe with some super primo stuff like a full print run of that year's purple items. Maybe two sets, so somebody besides Smak could win a set

I was also a little confused by the timing. From something I'd read on the boards, I thought sealed bids were from 7:00-8:00 and combos were at 8:00. I missed the Phial of Conflagration because I was off. Realized my mistake on the auction, though.
an open auction for anything would be a blast just to record and play at later cons. who would want to be an auctioneer? and just imagine the excitement over whole set of anything. =D

I think the Artisan tokens are a nice "role-playing" addition to True Dungeon. If people keep bidding on them then why not keep them around. Personally though, I am partial to the Combo tokens so if something had to go, I would drop the Artisan tokens before other things.

I think the Artisan Tokens are cool, and since there are many people that are interested in them, I'd recommend keeping them.

Other items I'd like to see auctioned (if the True Dungeon treasure vaults contain them):

1) 2003 Tokens, either significant ones individually, or perhaps Token Bags of 1 Very Rare, 2 Rare, and 7 commons (the contents of the bags would be a mystery until won).
2) 2004 Tokens, See above.
3) Ultra Rare tokens like Rings of Regeneration, Hourglass of Answers, etc.
4) Misprint / Unique Tokens, like Tokens with a blank face, wrong back, etc. I think there is more of a demand for tokens like that than many think.
5) "00" Bags. Perhaps take an Entire Ultra Rare set, and make a bunch of "00" bags out of them (one ultra-rare per bag, plus 1 Very Rare, 2 Rares, and 6 Commons), and then the high bidder(s) get to randomly pick one of the "00" bags and see which Purple they were lucky enough to get, plus if they got a neat Very Rare or Rares as a bonus.
6) Special tokens for auction like the Artisan Tokens, but functionally playable - like for instance a Wizards Staff with a special ability (like casting a fireball once per combat). There could be an entire set of tokens, one per character class, usable only by that character class.

In addition, while I understand having gold required for combo tokens, the Artisan Auctions, etc., puts a high value on gold and gems, the gold and gems will be spread VERY thin for all these purposes.

I'd like to see one or more of the above auctions (perhaps the "00" bags) allow non-gold/gem tokens to be used as payment in addition to gold and gems. It could be very simple, Very Rare tokens could have a trade in value of 100 GP (or whatever is decided is fair), Rares 25 GP, and Commons 5 GP (if allowed). It would be easy to do - a clear plastic tube (or non-clear tube with a slit cut in it) could be marked so that if you put a bunch of tokens in it you could easily see how many were there without having to count each one.

This has no downsides that I see, and several upsides:

1) Players would be able to get value out of all the duplicate tokens that they have laying around, getting more value for their token purchases.
2) Since players would be clearing out their token collections, and would be seeing more value for token purchases since EVERY token has a use, it would increase token sales which benefits True Dungeon directly, and all of us indirectly.
3) It would give a BUNCH more tokens to True Dungeon, which they could then give away as treasure during True Dungeon runs. This would help satisfy one of the more common complaints this year, that there was so little treasure to be had in the dungeons.
4) Gold and Gems would still have a premium value, since they are needed for combo tokens, and since some of the auctions like Artisan Auctions would still allow only gold and gems as payment.

What does everyone think?

Some real possibilites there...

But I can tell ya from experience that it does start to bite into TD token bag sales when items are able to trade in for other items.

There was the whole "unload" item dumping thread before INDY 2005...people were all ready to trade 40 daggers in for a +1 longsword.

Again - TD is probably wise to auction up stuff that is not in bags today - and also wise to take gold and or items off the market IF they are seen to be in a glut...i.e. causing collectors or players to gripe that there is nothing to do with all the surplus.

Hey Bro,

I agree with you about token bag sales taking a hit when you can trade in tokens for other tokens. That's why I was surprised to see, in token trading before an adventure, the possibility of trading three commons for a Very Rare of your choice. That seems like it might bite into bag sales, and might be a mistake. However, if my suggestions above are taken, I'll bet that hundreds - if not thousands - of tokens will be traded in as payment for the auctions, which should spur sales of tokens the next year, to replenish that token stash for the next year's auctions.

Along the same lines, I think it would be a mistake to do anything like auction off a complete set of that year's tokens, or of that year's Ultra Rare tokens. It makes it more of an accomplishment if you have to complete those sets by buying bags and trading, than by getting the complete set in one fell swoop in an auction. Although - can you imagine how high the bidding would get for a complete 2003 set??

We are on the same wavelength about not auctioning off things that are for sale in the bags that year, I think my only suggestion for auctioning off items for that year would be the Ultra Rares - and that auction could always be for the previous year's set instead of this years.
6) Special tokens for auction like the Artisan Tokens, but functionally playable - like for instance a Wizards Staff with a special ability (like casting a fireball once per combat). There could be an entire set of tokens, one per character class, usable only by that character class.

First of all keep the ideas comming, guys!

Mike I forsee this kind of token, but as a future combo rather than up for auction, but anything is a possibility.

Given the assumption that combos will continue, future combos will need numbers of common items, like base weapons and armor ostensibly as raw material for the making. I had also thought of having the "wandering" raw materials dealer that would pay gold for items, to again keep the flow of "cash" circular. We will just have to see how it plays out.

Dave
