Hey all.

Well, as some of you know, I spent a great deal of time at Indy talking with people (tavern "merchants" in particular) about Prices, trades, token valuations (relative and absolute) and thoughts in general about the Token Economy and the Price Guide:

www.truedungeon.com/true/TD_Tokens_Priceguide_v31.pdf

Updates have taken place.

In this version you might notice some expected and some unexpected things.

General comments:
1) The average token collector has become "wealthier". This was due to a number of factors including "free" pouches distributed to all adventurers, overflow of accumulation by the ultra-wealthy, and brisk token sales for returning and first time TDers. As a result, the prices for Commons and Rares have dropped nearly across the board, with non-consumables being hardest hit.

2) With the Artisan Tokens and other GP sinks, we saw for the first time a deflation (the value of GPs and Gems went up relative to the other tokens) in the gold hungry Token Economy and it was clear that the Price Guide needed an update to reflect this. Coupled with the effect from #1, the Commons dropped by a combined effect of roughly 50%, Rares dropped by 25-30%, and the Very Rares dropped by approx. 10-20% with little change to the Ultra Rares. But the net result is that the ABSOLUTE VALUE of the Very Rares and Ultra Rares increased. The value per bag is fixed ($10) and a decrease in relative value for one token necessitates and increase for the others.

This might be a little confusing so let me pull out an example. Noticed that the "Elixir of Life" went down in its GP value but up in its $ value. In other words, its value relative to other tokens went UP and gained a larger percentage of the $10 price per bag. It is the ratios of tokens (or $) that should be looked at to determine changes in absolute valuation. I know this is going to generate a lot of questions so please let me know if you would like more explanation.

The goal with these modifications was to replace the "modifier" that people were using when trading in actual GPs and Gems.

Other changes:
3) Additionally, ingredient Tokens have been added
4) Combo tokens added with approximate costs to combine.
5) Artisan Tokens added with final selling price.
6) Minor formatting changes.
7) Token Designation if part of a Combo Recipe (GP is center aligned). Although I am considering taking this out. Thoughts?
8.) And many prices have been adjusted based on received trades during the Con and since.

Feedback is always welcome and thank you again for all the inputs.

-Douglas

Hey Douglas,

Thanks for the updated Guide and including all the new stuff.

I was just a little curious - have items dropped in value (on average) since Gold is now a tad more valuable? I know we have heard of items going well below guide as a means to acquire gold...so if there is a small % drop across the board I was just curious what that was (have not comared V29 to V30.)

Also thanks for the easy ingredient identification...that is pretty cool. I'm a tad curious why only the Ingredient Gems are worth more than face value over other Gems that are hard to come by, but I think I can see the logic in that as well.

Thanks again.
G

1) Yep, it was pretty clear that the value of GP and Gems have gone up and thus the value of the Tokens relative to GP/Gems went down. See post above.
2) Ok, so I guess you are in favor of keeping it. ;) If you have any other suggestion on how to designate ingredients for Combo Tokens, let me know though. This way looks a bit off.
3) For the Ingredient Gems, at Indy I saw higher demand for this and people trading a premium to get certain gems in particular. I didn't see the same demand from collectors for the older but perhaps irrelevant gems. Hence the difference. Expect the prices to drop back to normal levels though after So Cal.

If you or anyone else has any questions, let me know.
-Douglas
As for Gems - I saw the opposite...There were die hards looking for all 2003 stuff and especially gems, as well as a growing group of people building sets of Gems I think...

Not many bites on my Gold/Gems thread though - hence the BUMP.

Ok, I understand what you are saying. But first, keep in mind that I don't track different versions of a particular token. For example, if the 2003 Garnet is going for more than the 2006 version, that won't show in the Price Guide. I only show the price for latest version. I used to track all versions but a certain "black bird" suggested I remove this from the Price Guide to make it more simple. ;) For the "out-of-print" Gems (like the 50gp Moonstone), I saw a few trades where there was little or no premium for them. If anyone has completed trades where these out-of-print gems were involved, please let me know.
I agree with the KIS Guide...it is way more important to focus a baseline for things that are in demand at CONs and by the majority of players.

Besides once you get to the out of print stuff OR stuff that has sentimental values - it really comes down to personal value on said items - moreso than just what any ole edition Elixer is worth to someone as an insurance policy.

G

Hehe doh! Being the gnome money counter when handling the auction bids, I think the TD Auctioneers may have a nice stack of 50gp Moonstones in the sacks we turned in.

I had a ton to burn - so I don't doubt it...I even got rid of 2004 Gold tokens I had a slew of...

The ingredient tokens are listed at 40 GP each - I've got a bunch of Rares and Very Rares to trade if anyone has any ingredient tokens they want to unload at that price.
