He said it’s basically a collectors item, I’d like to know the second part, if Jeff might offer a way to rebound a soulforged item upon retirement / passing is even potentially a thing. Check ashwind abbey for the original post. Is it considered a +2 sword for anyone else or is it even not that useful? Could it be turned in for a legendary lute by someone else? Aka, does it have any value outside of the origin that might be worth it to someone who isn’t a collector? Thanks.

I would GREATLY disagree with it ever being allowed to bind to a new player. I would much rather see Jeff do something with the sword to provide it a permanent place of honor at TDHQ or something similar.

It should continue to exist and be a thing but it shouldn't change owners.

*for reference there is another soulbound item that no longer has any text or use as it's owner passed away*

Do you have a link to the original post? I almost bought it a few years ago, but was hoping he'd play again with it.

I also feel that Soulforged tokens should never be allowed to transfer to another player. Like Widseth said, they would basically be collector's items for anyone other than the person they were soulbound to. Is there an official "Soulforged" definition anywhere? I didn't see it on the TokenDB listing.

Check the top 5 posts. He posted in the V5A page.

tokendb.com/token/widseths-2-dancing-sword/

There's nothing on soulforged items but the previous Artifact was retired with the owner's passing

tokendb.com/token/carters-eldritch-doubler/

My personal hope is that Jeff will decree

"The magic within Widseth's Dancing Blade ebbs away as it leaves it's true owners hand, passing the magic onto Bard's of a new generation"

And the next token cycle sees a rare 1 hand sword

Widseth's Dancing Sword - May perform bardsong and attack with this weapon

So the weapon lives on in a lesser form to the benefit of all bard players.

I hope they never transfer. Any of these that are sold off due to retirement should be collectables or go back to TD for display/historical purposes.

I'm hoping that, if someone does buy it from Dennis, it stays soulforged to Dennis and the new owner will loan it to Dennis if he ever wants to do another True Dungeon run. That's the arrangement Dennis and I were talking about back when I was thinking of buying it.

It would be good for True Dungeon to have an official Soulforged definition somewhere (if it isn't already).

This would absolutely be my hope.

I assume that whoever was to purchase the token would not be able to use it, purely to have it as a collectors item and would absolutely want Dennis to be able to use it at any event if he is able to come back some time and attend.

my 2cents...

I think a soul forged should stay linked to the original owner, except it can be, passed down posthumously from parent to child.

If someone wants to play TD because it reminds them of their mom or dad, I would be very happy allowing them to use the token, because it would also help the community remember that player as well. It might be good therapy for all involved.

But that is it.

Sad to see a long-time vet hanging it up. We'll have to use the grandchildren angle to bring him back :)

Yeah he sounds like he’s in a bad place unfortunately, and a great place where his grandchildren are playing True Dungeon! I asked here for clarification on soul bound rules and if there is some sort of reason a non collector might be interested in a soul bound item. If it could be turned in for a “legendary lute” it would end up back in the hands of True Adventures likely. If it could be used as a +2 weapon it would likely be seen in dungeons and not hoarded in someone’s lair. I wouldn’t pay what he’s been offered before for either of those, that said I’d rather see a token than just talk or hear about it. Having a token in the game that no longer gets used seems like a sad state for any token especially one like that.
