TOPIC: Taborlin's Key Suggestion

I have a suggestion for Taborlin's Key. Because Taborlin was a renown mage in The Kingkiller Chronicles, it would make sense if the key had an additional capability for wizards.

What about allowing the Key to absorb up to 30 damage a wizard takes from a single use of the Mage Medallions (either relic or legendary)? It would still be the one use per run like the key is set for today but have an exception allowing it to be used in conjunction with the medallions. Thematically, that seems to fit the Rothfuss world really well.

Thoughts?

It seems like a change like that would be best made while people could still donate enough to get one of them.

reading the key from tokens why would a change be needed?

Once per game, up to 30 points of damage inflicted on the wearer can be negated. The damage must come from a single source, but the damage can be of any type other than Eldritch or Push.

Isn't it a single source? I don't see the 5 damage as Eldritch but maybe that is an oversight. Mad Evokers is listed as Eldritch. Again I could be missing something.

from the TDb description of Mage Medallion and Ashenne's Arch-Mage Medallion (emphasis added):
Each MP/AMP used requires the wizard to sacrifice 5 HP (in addition to the 25 HP sacrifice required by the MEC effect–if the wearer also chooses to invoke the MEC effect) before casting the modified Spell. The HP sacrifice is an Instant Action. E.g., using three MPs/AMPs on one Spell requires a single 15 HP sacrifice. Wizards may not die from MP/AMP usage as they currently must have at least one more hit point than the total hit points lost to the MP/AMP(s) used on a Spell. The HP sacrifice is a cost that must be paid before the modified Spell is cast.

If the cost is not paid, the (A)MP does not happen. I.e., you cannot mitigate the HP sacrifice. You can heal the HP sacrifice afterword, but you can't prevent, negate, or reduce it at the time of the sacrifice.

Initially, it didn’t specify damage exclusions (there was no tokendb entry for it yet so all participants had to go on was the token text.) The tokendb entry is consistent with other similar items, though, so nobody is surprised that the key mirrored the other items. We got pretty much what was expected.

I’m only asking because, thematically, I think it would be pretty cool to be able to do a wizard more like Taborlin.
