TOPIC: Are Charms of Transmorph worth keeping (late 2021)?

Are Charms of Transmorph worth keeping (late 2021)? 2 years 5 months ago #1

I have a 5th and 9th Charm of Transmorph. I'm debating transmuting them into Darkwood Plank but I figured I would check the forums first to see if these are still relevant. What do you think? Are people still looking for these? I did a search and didn't find much talk about them.

You should currently trade them instead of transmute. I will trade for them if no one else is interested. But hopefully someone is more interested than me.

I definitely wouldn't transmute them. There is no expiration date on their effect, and collectors might want them also.

Per TokenDB.Com: Created in the chaos of the Abyssal Swamp, these charms sometimes make their way into the Astral Plane via a Weirdwind. These charms harness the power of Chaos magic to visit upon its user a startling effect of a boonful nature.

To utilize this charm’s power, all 10 members of your party must turn in one of these tokens. Each token turned in must be unique. I.e., the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Charm of Transmorph must all be turned in. If your party has fewer than 10 players, your group may not utilize any Transmorph Charm power. In the unlikely event that your party has more than 10 players, the extra player has the option to turn in a duplicate Transmorph Charm if they wish to utilize a power. If the extra player chooses not to turn in a Transmorph Charm, that person’s choice will not affect the 10 players who did turn one in. However, only the players who turn in a charm can select a Transmorph Charm power.

Unlike most charms, this token must be turned in to the coach prior to starting an adventure. Even though it’s turned in, it still occupies one of your charm slots.

Each person who turns in a Transmorph Charm chooses one of the available effects. More than one player may select the same effect. Unless otherwise specified, the chosen effect lasts the whole game.

Each effect is accompanied by a slight change in appearance. These physical alterations in no way affect equipment slots or the ability to wear items. The available effects and their associated physical changes will be made known after the charms are turned in.

Generally a charm of transmorph goes for $8-$10. The fractional DP transmute value is maybe 10-20 cents.

I'm trying to fill.out one more set, and while I don't "need" the ones you have, consolidating them seems a good idea.

I'd happily swap darkwood Plank, or something of more value, for them.

What do the charms of transmorph actually do? I know you need a full set of ten for your run, and it sounds like there are ten different effects to choose from. I've wondered about this for a while, and haven't been able to find the answer. It's hard to search the forum for it without getting all the posts buying or selling them. Is this an answerable question, or is it intentionally kept secret from people who haven't used one before?

Searching on “Transmorph effect” for a year or older turned up five pages of posts, including truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=5&id=247963#313409

I remember there was a complete list posted somewhere

Basically your group turns in a set and each member gets to choose from a list of more powerful charm effects. Nothing earth shattering, it was just a fun activity for the run.

It's one of a number of different, fun, uncommon level effects.

They're fun.

They're only uncommon because they are single use consumables. Their power level is closer to UR (or at least was at the time). And there's at least one effect that hasn't been duplicated as a permanent UR charm effect (though a 2022 UR comes close).

If folks want to try to consolidate those that remain, I have I think three to toss into a pool to create sets out of for somebody to use.

Trying to sell them to an individual is a pain, so doing something other than that seems to make more sense. I doubt anyone cares enough to manage a bank, but maybe somebody would manage a spreadsheet of has what or something to make it easier for folks to find who has the ones they want.

I know i'd be interested in more as i'm trying to get a set made up. Have to dig and see what i have still. I've wanted to use the set on a theme run like a bloody run or green with Envy run for example.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven
