TOPIC: Ring of the Fifth Circle Slotless?

Do we know yet if the Ring of the Fifth Circle (and the transmuted token in 5 years) is Slotless or not? Based on the precedent of the Rod of Seven Parts and Skull of Cavadar I'd expected a Slotless token, but based on the name it sounds like it might take the Ring slot.

If it does take the Ring slot, I wonder how that will impact demand for the transmuted token, since that is a high-demand slot. I also wonder how it would impact the value of the individual Rings (especially for those left over after Transmuting is closed). People could use as many different Rod Segments and Teeth as they wanted since they were all slotless, but there will be a definite limit on how many can be used at once if they all take a Ring slot.

Or maybe it's "Rings" like in the Shang-Chi movie, and they will be slotless.

To expand on Marc D's comment, per the Token DB, the Ring of the 5th Circle uses a finger slot. Whether the ultimate token will also use a finger slot is unknown, I believe.

I'm also (maybe assuming) this will be a 5 year transmute rather than a 7 year, so not exactly apples to apples.

Well, unless they plan to expand the number of finger slots we can equip, the individual rings will be limited in use.

It seems kind of ironic or something. People who annually spend $1k plus on tokens tend to drive toward nightmare level builds, yet the rings don't feel like they'll be useful at that level or above. Don't get me wrong. This fifth ring is nice, but I honestly don't see needing or using it in any of my builds. Even the transmuted ring would have to have one hell of power increase to make it desirable. Maybe the transmuted item will be slotless?

Was just thinking the same thing. It would have to be worded something like "Wearer may equip up to 4 rings." That's kind of the only way to make it not conflict with the Hand, Gloves or Charm of Glory, which limit you to 3 rings. That would also make it highly desirable, because you could equip it and also free up a neck, hand or charm slot if you currently use a Glory item.

Has Jeff stated that all five of them will be rings? AFAIK he hasn't, in which case next year's item could be Bead of the 4th Circle or somesuch...

EDIT: I see truedungeon.com/the-current-token-collection says "All 5 Rings will grant your character a special power." Thanks to the folks who pointed that out!

If you look at Jeff's comments from the pre-shirt, he noted that it was better to put all of the components into a single slot so that you couldn't stack them with the final product, like how the Elemental rings were stackable. This, apparently, was part of the reason for moving into shirt slot when used to be a charm.

Also, Arcanum competing for slots with Eldritch at least some seems a good thing to me, but I'm sure someone else will want less slot competition.

I agree with you, if the final Transmuted token is a Ring slot, I hope it's a lot more powerful than this first Ring. I do remember Jeff saying that this would be a five year transmute instead of seven year, which I think was smart. Although the Arcane Set bonuses might make using this Ring a lot more desirable also if you also have the Shirt, depending on what they are.

That said - I do find this ring to be pretty useful, it's a functional reprint of the Ultra-Rare +2 Ring of Protection. It might not be useful for top builds, but it's nice for some lower token builds.

If you did something like that, you might as well just say it is slotless, because in essence that's what it would be.
