Monster trophies are the same at both in person and VTD events.

Just in case there is any confusion, monster trophies are different to participation tokens. Participation tokens are exclusive tokens you receive after completing an adventure, you get exactly one copy of them per adventure and there is a different one specific to each adventure (and potentially also per iteration of that adventure, if the same adventure is ran on multiple different events or different VTD cycles).

Monster trophies are ingredient tokens which can only be obtained by random treasure pulls. Those are also given out after an adventure, but they are not fixed and there is no way of knowing how many you may pull from your treasure. Treasure pulls are pretty much always taken from the same random pool for the entire calendar year, with only very infrequent exceptions. There are only six or seven different monster trophies per year, and all of them are available in treasure throughout the entire year.
I play Rogue. Occasionally I even play Rogue well.

To elaborate a tad more: there are 8 this year, over the next 4 years you will need 1 of each from ALL 4 years. In the final year there will be a “ base item “ most likely in the form of a PYP. This plus some trade good are all required to created the newest ring expansion. 4 slots ( total ). I don’t believe we can have more than 4 or 5 after this. I’m not sure what it will be. The rings for ringcon will be Eldritch, and we have greaves those year + next 3 years for Arcanum. I posted a like below to help! Most of them I have doubles if you want to trade or buy some :) good luck!

Fair. In my head it went up to 7 last year, but you're right, it's 8. Thanks.

To clarify a bit on what Tyrael was saying, the PYP (choosing your ultra rare) is a part of a multi-year set (Arcanum Greaves), which is different than the story relic (4C) you were referring to. This will require all monster trophies from 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026, as well as one rare from 2026. It will be a relic slot expander as referenced in the first post of this thread. Currently the only trophies you should collect are:

Creeper Claw
Death Head Fang
Gargoyle Claw
Ghoul Spittle
Golem Bolt
Mersnake Venom
Spectre Dust
Werewolf Venom

To see an example of a previous Story Relic and what was required, you can look here:
