I would make the top five circles green instead of red. Feels a bit more inviting and still emphasizes their importance

I think having the Ioun Stones spacing be different is good to show that they are a shared slot

I would recommend showing the ranged off-hand as different that red, and explaining it can be the same token as the melee off-hand (like your Shield), and thus for many fighter classes will not be having a token.

I like the new layout. It better reflects the advancing of the game and the new slots.

Rob F wrote: One thing I can take away from this new mat that has 35 slots is....please no more new slots. The only people that use these mat's are the new players. Vets don't, even casual TD players typically don't. There's only so much time in coaching, when new players enter the room and bust their ten packs the first thing they start trying to do is fill the existing mat they see in front of them with what they have in addition to trading others Tokens to help fill everyone's mat. Even with help from vets they barely have enough time as it is to get it done as they careful search out where to put each Token. With this new beast it's going to take them even longer. You might also want to have staff at the check in tables ask every player that checks in if this is their first time playing, for the first timers I say give them two or even three ten packs instead of one. That way they have more Tokens to fill their mat with. It won't look as empty then. Even now with one ten pack I see the new player looking at their finished mat that has only 3 or 4 Tokens, maybe less (because there's always lots in a 10 pack they can't use) thinking "Oh no, this is all the gear I have!!?". Even when you tell them not to worry about it I know they still do. Cracking packs is super fun and so is filling the mat. Give the newbies a few more ten packs so they can fill this bad boy and feel more comfortable having more of their slots filled out. And now my late night rambling is done..

I think this is a different conversation for another thread, but if we're talking about helping the new player experience, rather than extra 10 packs, an evergreen class 10 pack would be more appropriate once new players have settled on their classes. Then again, I don't want Yancey to yell at me for an idea that sees him suddenly carrying a Chewbacca-style bandolier of token packs...

Other thought: for Melee Mainhand and Ranged Mainhand, I would recommend adding “If 2 hand icons are on your weapon, no offhand slot”

Then on Ranged Offhand add “Can usually be same token as Melee Offhand”
I play Wizard.

I know everyone is saying no new slots, but I believe there was previously conversation to introduce a Tome slot. Is that still being considered? If so, that should be added to this mat to help future-proof it. If that slot is not added to this mat, paired with all of the preferences to avoid new slots, I think the slot should not be added to the game.
I play Wizard.

I am having trouble putting two pictures in one post, so proposal A:
I play Wizard.

The idea of my two ideas to propose are putting the torso slot on the body and putting them next to Shirt and Back, where people expect to find it and won’t mix up these three slots, while still emphasizing the 5 most important slots.

Proposal B:
I play Wizard.

I really dug Reap's idea about moving the slots to better associate to where they are on the body, though I get the desire to have the person be visible. One thing that could be considered is making the mat itself a bit wider to allow those tokens to float outside the person, making that association yet still letting the art shine.

Another thing I liked about Reap's version was moving charms, beads, and ioun stones to the bottom, which keeps things that don't have as strong a relationship to the body away from it and letting your weapons/torso still shine up top.

As others mentioned, I had concern about using red for the five slots that are encouraged. Red tends to be a 'mandatory' or 'danger' signal, green (as NightGod suggested) is more 'this is encouraged', which seems the desire (especially when you have some casters that are probably less focused on weaponry and offhand).

A very slapdash version of what I'm envisioning:
