It is sad when your memory starts to go. I have forgotten, will TD make change for a 10X trade token if you need less than 10 for a transmute?

The official answer is that you need to send the 10x in first for change, then send in your transmute.

For all who might be reading this, if you send in a 10× to be broken down, please order 10 singles. We want to order form to reflect the exact number of tokens we need to send you.

E.g., if you want us to break a 10× Darkwood Planks, please order ten Darkwood Plank tokens and then place one Darkwood Plank slip in the same bag as your 10× Darkwood Planks token.

Please do not put more than one slip in a bag. Ever.

We just updated the policy. The FAQ on the Token Exchange Program page now includes this:

If I'm sending in a Transmute and I only have a 10×, can I get "change" back?
Yes, but with a couple provisions:

1. Write us a brief note explaining what's going on.
   E.g., don't make us guess that you intended to send in a 10× Mystic Silk for a recipe that only requires 5 Mystic Silk or for two recipes that requite 4 Mystic Silk each.
2. Order whatever change you need back.
   E.g., If you're sending in a 10× Mystic Silks token for a recipe that only needs 5 Mystic Silk, in addition to the note explaining what's going on, order 5 Mystic Silk tokens. If you're already sending in "base" tokens to exchange for Mystic Silk, add 5 (or whatever amount of change you need) to that total.
   We need the order form to reflect the total number of tokens we are to send you.
